Position Overview
MEC is seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Accounting to lead the company’s accounting operations and financial reporting function. Reporting to VP Finance, this role provides strategic leadership for the Company’s accounting organization and is responsible for ensuring the integrity of financial statements, maintaining a strong internal control environment, and developing scalable accounting processes that support continued growth. The ideal candidate is a proactive leader with strong technical expertise, a continuous improvement mindset, and the ability to partner cross-functionally with teams across finance, operations, and executive leadership.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
· Oversee inventory valuation, inventory reserves, and cost of goods sold to ensure accurate financial reporting; Oversee preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
· Design, implement, and continuously improve accounting policies, internal controls, and standard operating procedures that support scalability, compliance, and audit readiness.
· Collaborate with external auditors to support year-end audits and other compliance requirements.
· Partner with FP&A and senior leadership to support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
· Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth.
· Lead accounting transformation initiatives, including ERP implementations, system enhancements, automation, and process standardization across the accounting organization.
· Lead or participate in special projects and strategic initiatives assigned by executive leadership.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics or related field; CPA strongly preferred
· 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role, overseeing complex, multi-entity, and multi-departmental operations.
· Manufacturing industry experience required; experience with industrial equipment industry is highly preferred.
· Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, inventory accounting, and multi-entity environments
· Strong knowledge of ERP systems, including GL and system implementations.
· Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams.
· Ability to operate in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with discretion and professionalism.
· Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
· Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment.
Compensation & Benefits
· $150,000 to $180,000 DOE
