Full Job Description

Position Summary

Noviello Financial Group, an established and growing financial planning and wealth management firm located in Bridgewater, NJ, is seeking an experienced CPA to help manage our internal tax function and serve our high-net worth clientele. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of our tax function, including return preparation and review, research, administration, technology, workflow, policy and process management. This role requires a strong commitment to delivering a high level of client service, with a focus on quality rather than volume.

The Senior Income Tax Professional will administer day-to-day tax operations, prepare and review complex returns, and progress toward final review. The role is expected to grow into signing authority for completed tax returns and broader tax department management responsibilities. In addition, this individual will co-supervise staff and external tax professionals, drive process and technology improvements, and help shape the future of our growing tax practice.

This role is ideal for a seasoned tax professional who enjoys both technical work and leadership, someone who brings strong judgement, a client-first mindset, and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, advisory-oriented environment.

Because our firm prioritizes comprehensive client service, the tax function is active year-round and intensifies during filing seasons (April 15th and October 15th). However, unlike a traditional CPA firm, we intentionally manage workload and client volume to avoid excessive overtime and maintain sustainable operations.

General Duties

Technical Skills and Duties

· Prepare, review, and ultimately sign tax returns; primarily complex individual income tax returns (including multi-state, foreign filings, and FBAR), along with trust and estate income tax returns, and gift tax returns. Limited business entity returns (1065, 1120-S) are also included.

· Navigate complex tax issues, including brokerage activity (Schedules B and D), Schedules C and E, K-1s from real estate, hedge funds, and private equity, as well as equity compensation, retirement income, foreign assets and income, and tax planning strategies.

· Research and comment on these issues, ensuring tax positions are well-documented, compliant, and defensible.

· Handle tax notices and controversies, including representing clients before the IRS and state tax authorities.

· Communicate clearly and professionally across all channels, providing timely updates and guidance.

· Identify tax and financial opportunities for both clients and the firm.

Additional Areas

· Co-supervise the tax team and lead update meetings between staff and the President.

· Own tax policies and workflow, deadline compliance, and calendar tracking to ensure accurate, timely filings.

· Develop team competency through in-house training, continuing education, and individual instruction.

· Review special projects, consult on tax issues, and support process improvements with the team and management.

· Lead ongoing evaluation and improvement of tax processes, quality control standards, and documentation.

· Partner on technology solutions, vendor coordination, and system improvements, including troubleshooting as needed.

· Assess risk exposure and support mitigation strategies across client and firm matters.

· Support broader financial planning efforts by providing tax analysis, calculations, and cross-functional collaboration.

Minimum Requirements and Capabilities

Bachelor’s degree, and advanced degrees in taxation welcomed.
Active NJ CPA license or IRS Enrolled Agent, with PTIN in good standing; eligible to sign returns and represent clients before IRS and state tax authorities.
Minimum of 5 years of income tax experience in the areas listed above.
Experience in an in-house, family office, or advisory firm environment is a plus
Comfortable operating in a small, lean organization with broad responsibilities and evolving priorities.
Demonstrated expertise in individual, estate & trust, gift, and business taxation.
Strong tax research and analytical skills; able to develop, document, and communicate defensible positions.
Strong professional judgment, accuracy, and attention to detail; unwavering ethics and confidentiality.
Excellent client-facing communication skills; able to translate complex tax matters into clear, confident guidance.
Proven ability to manage complexity and resolve issues across tax, technical, client service, and operational areas.
Strong organization and documentation skills, ensuring clarity, consistency, and quality control in all work products.
Proficient with tax and office technologies (e.g., CCH Axcess, BNA, Microsoft 365, CRM); quickly adapts to new tools.
Self-motivated; independent and flexible in a collaborative team environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
Self-directed and proactive, with strong ownership, follow-through, and the ability to manage competing priorities.
Collaborative with a continuous improvement mindset and a commitment to team development and client outcomes.
Ability to perform occasional in-office physical tasks, including lifting, filing, and equipment movement.
Preferred Commute time under 30 minutes.

Compensation

Full time, in office with flexibility; M – F 9 to 5, 1 day/week remote after 6 months (tax season restrictions)
Starting Base Salary: $130K range, based on skills and experience
Bonuses, based on firm Incentive Compensation Plan
Firm subsidized benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k) + match, life, short- and long-term disability, and PTO

Pay: $130,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
