Position works 12 hour rotating shifts with overtime to support 24/7 year round operations.
Education/Experience/Certifications Required:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Two year technical degree from an accredited institution or 3 years of industrial experience with preference in chemical/refining experience
- Work Key Certification; Workplace Documents (4), Graphic Literacy (4), Applied Math (4) and Applied Technology (4)
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
- Basic PC skills
- Basic math skills
- Ability to interpret and use SDSs, P&IDs and PFDs
Roles & Responsibilities
1. Operates Process Equipment.
a. Starts up and shuts down equipment
b. Monitors and makes adjustments to equipment
(Pumps, vessels, furnaces, steam stations, compressors, filters, centrifuges, exchangers, distillation towers, valves, etc.
c. Clears plugged process lines
d. Resets analyzers
e. Anticipates and responds to equipment failures
f. Monitors seal fluids, replenish seal pots
g. Performs area walkthroughs – operating rounds
h. Monitors and reports oil usage
i. Uses DCS Board readings and observation (sounds, inspections) to troubleshoot equipment
j. Capability to understand equipment, process flows and pressures to enable effective troubleshooting.
k. Confirms transfer line-ups
2. Performs maintenance and reliability activities.
a. Prepares equipment for maintenance work
b. Competent in Control of Work (COW) process (test equipment, permitting, (Lockout Tagout) LOTO, blind list for installation and removal
c. Performs minor maintenance
d. Replenish lubricants
e. Monitors unit for leaks or evidence of leaks and report in database
f. Dispose of process waste per environmental regulations
g. Participated in reliability projects
h. Support unit mini-outages and turnarounds when scheduled.
i. Performs daily equipment checks to determine maintenance needs, advises Foreman/Maintenance Coordinator
3. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned.
a. Maintains a clean and well organized work area (housekeeping)
b. Attends meetings as required
c. Attends training as required and drills on operating scenarios and emergencies
d. Complies with all HSSE programs (safety, environmental, PSM), policies and procedures
e. Performs special projects and miscellaneous duties as assigned
4. Assures product quality
a. Identifies and reports process and product nonconformance per ISO9001 procedures.
b. Monitor silos and assures correct product transfers
c. Identifies and monitors process controls affecting quality
d. Submits reports as scheduled (daily, EOM, etc.)
5. Monitors and adjusts plant processes
a. Responsible for full procedure compliance, including documentation and signoff of appropriate job tasks accurately and transparently as outlined in PSM060.
b. Traces process lines
c. Collects and analyzes process samples, adjusts additives accordingly, adjust process per lab results
d. DCS Board is responsible for continuously monitoring process using trends/DCS graphic
e. Alarm response - DCS Board is responsible for monitoring DCS Alarm Summary and works with Field Operator who is responsible for aiding Board Operator in verification of abnormal situations.
f. Aligns valves for normal, by-pass and shutdown operations
g. Responds to unit emergencies
h. Identifies and reports any emerging risks
i. Coordinates interplant material transfers
j. Assists Foreman and Engineers to meet process targets
k. Unloads raw materials, records and reports inventory
l. Troubleshoots process and equipment; identify root causes
m. Monitors and reports in plant data systems (i.e. leak database, PDR, Title V, Material Receiving, LOTO, SORA, Documentum, I-Process – rounds, etc.).
n. Assists engineers with designs, field walk-downs, installation inspections, etc.; suggests improvements
