Full Job Description

Position: Tooling Manager

Reports To: Plant Manager

Position Summary:

The Tooling Manager is responsible for all aspects of the Tool Room classification of the Company and will ensure those operations function in a manner that assures the organization’s short-term and long-term operational and productivity objectives are met in a fiscally responsible manner.

Essential Duties:

In keeping with the organization’s policies and procedures, along with all necessary legislative authority, the Tooling Manager will:

· Plan, schedule, coordinate, and manage activities in the internal Tool Room, along with the organization’s team of die setters in a manner that tooling maintenance, repair, set-up and removal activities are carried out in a safe, productive and fiscally responsible manner.

· Ensure all tooling is maintained and documented following the preventative maintenance schedule for tooling to include improving the organization’s program of tool sharpening frequencies.

· Maintain all perishable tooling and spare details are stocked and available when required.

· Ensure expedient repair of tooling to original or better specifications and documented, to ensure the organization can meet production requirements.

· Plan, legitimize and properly requisition through the purchasing department and procedure the resources necessary to maintain the organization’s tooling.

· Interface with the applicable supervisors and managers to ensure all information related to tooling, tooling installation and equipment concerns are effectively communicated and immediately addressed.

· Liaise with production management and supervision to schedule the necessary time and resources to ensure the organization’s tooling is maintained and installed to meet production requirements. Participate in tooling reviews with the supervisors and quality department to determine what tooling needs are required after each run and status of tool.

· From time to time and only as requested by the Plant Manager, investigate, prepare and submit the necessary written ‘business case’ report regarding capital investment in tooling and equipment

· On a monthly basis, inspect, evaluate and provide timely written reports to the Plant Manager regarding the condition and life expectancy of the organization’s facilities, and equipment, to include a safety audit of such equipment and facilities, to also include the necessary records, controls and criteria used to determine equipment obsolescence and potential replacement costs.

· Liaise with, advise, make recommendations to and assist the Maintenance Department Manager in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the organization’s equipment.

· Minimize the allocation of overtime for Tool Room to meet emergent needs only.

· In keeping with the applicable procedures, participate in the remedial training of all operators of progressive dies, die setters, and supervisors with respect to the proper set up and operational procedures in conjunction with their jobs to provide continual improvement to those operations.

· Make recommendations regarding and monitor the consumption of necessary resources in areas of tooling and equipment in a manner that meets the operational and productivity objectives in a fiscally responsible manner.

· Participate as requested as a team member in the Quoting, Contract Review, Advanced Product Quality Planning, Continual Improvement, Process Improvement and Corrective and Preventive Action processes in keeping with all policies and procedures of the organization.

· Develop, monitor, implement and provide timely closure Action Plans developed in response to the appropriate QOS Measurable to provide for progress toward the achievement of operational and productivity objectives.

· Develop, monitor and provide timely closure to Action Plans to ensure projects and assignments are planned and completed in a timely and fiscally responsible manner.

· Maintain order, discipline, efficiency, morale and positive employee relations through the use of appropriate measures in an ethical manner within the Tool Room in keeping with the personnel policies and procedures of the Company, including any employment agreements between the Company and employees in those departments, and any applicable legislative authority.

· Make recommendations with respect to proactive or remedial training of the members of the Tool Room to ensure that the operational, productivity objectives are being met in a fiscally responsible manner.

· Communicate directly and in a timely manner with the Plant Manager regarding significant problems that jeopardize the achievement of organizational objectives.

· Assign and monitor timely completion of policy and procedural directives in keeping with the documented quality system to ensure that operational and productivity objectives are met in a fiscally responsible manner.

· Participate as necessary in the Joint Health and Safety Committee for the facility to ensure compliance with the OSHA and any relevant regulatory authority.

· Attend weekly meetings under the chair of the Plant Manager and provide proactive input toward the resolution of open issues and the continual improvement of the production department, tool room, tooling and equipment.

· Attend any other meetings as necessary as called by a member of the Senior Management Team to provide proactive input toward the resolution of open issues and the continual improvement of the organization.

· Any other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

Completion of Post Secondary schooling.
Comparable experience may be considered.
10 years hands on related experience in Automotive stamping industry.
