Facilities & Maintenance Technician
At Baxter Brewing Company, we know that great beer starts long before it reaches a can. It starts with reliable equipment, a safe workplace, and people who take pride in keeping everything running at its best.
We're looking for a Facilities & Maintenance Technician to join our team. This is a hands-on role responsible for maintaining the equipment, systems, and facilities that support our brewery, restaurant, warehouse, and office operations.
If you're someone who enjoys troubleshooting mechanical problems, improving equipment reliability, and seeing the direct impact of your work every day, we'd love to hear from you.
About Baxter
Located in a beautifully renovated 1850s textile mill in downtown Lewiston, Baxter Brewing Company is New England's original can-centric craft brewery. Our award-winning beers are enjoyed throughout the Northeast and beyond, and we're proud to represent the state of Maine in a world-class way.
What To Expect
You'll help plan preventative maintenance, coordinate vendors, maintain documentation, and spend much of your day working with your hands. You'll troubleshoot equipment, perform preventative maintenance, respond to unexpected issues, complete repairs, and help keep our operation running safely and efficiently.
You'll spend hours solving a complex mechanical issue in addition to moving between several projects across our brewery, restaurant, and facility. Priorities can change quickly, and there are times when everyone pitches in to help wherever needed. If you enjoy variety, taking ownership, and being part of a close-knit team, you'll thrive here.
What You'll Be Doing
Your responsibilities will include:
- Performing preventative and corrective maintenance on brewery, packaging, restaurant, warehouse, and facility equipment.
- Developing and executing preventative maintenance schedules utilizing our CMMS.
- Troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, valves, compressors, heat exchangers, pneumatic systems, and related equipment.
- Monitoring critical utility systems including glycol, compressed air, chillers, and wastewater systems.
- Maintaining accurate maintenance records, equipment history, and downtime documentation.
- Coordinating contractor work while ensuring quality, safety, and accountability.
- Managing maintenance parts, tools, and inventory.
- Assisting with facility improvements and capital projects.
- Supporting maintenance budgeting, utilities tracking, and long-term equipment planning.
- Maintaining the overall appearance, functionality, and safety of our facilities and property.
- Responding to occasional emergency maintenance needs when required.
- Performing other duties that support the success of the operation.
What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Takes pride in fixing problems the right way, not just the quickest way.
- Can prioritize multiple projects without losing attention to detail.
- Works well independently while communicating effectively with the team.
- Is comfortable in a fast-paced manufacturing environment where every day is a little different.
- Approaches challenges with curiosity, accountability, and a positive attitude.
- Believes that preventative maintenance is just as important as emergency repairs.
Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of maintenance or related industrial experience.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.
- Experience with pumps, compressors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mechanical power transmission, valves, and related industrial equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Basic plumbing and electrical diagnostic experience.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and CMMS software.
- Forklift experience is preferred but not required.
- Brewery, food manufacturing, or industrial manufacturing experience is a plus but not required.
Physical Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work on your feet throughout the workday.
- Comfortable working around industrial equipment and in varying temperatures.
- Comfortable working safely at heights when necessary.
