ProSearch is seeking a Systems Developer Lead in Portland, Maine to support a confidential nonprofit healthcare organization in a hybrid work environment. This organization plays a critical role in improving how healthcare data is managed, protected, and understood across the U.S.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Ruby on Rails-focused Systems Developer Lead who enjoys staying hands-on while also guiding a small, collaborative development team. You will help design and operate a secure, highly scalable data platform that supports healthcare claims data for more than 130 million individuals.
The role is hybrid, with three days (Tues, Wed, Thurs.) per week in a beautiful office located in Portland, ME.

What You Will DoTechnical Leadership and Development
- Design, build, and maintain Ruby on Rails applications and API endpoints
- Architect scalable backend services and database schemas within a Rails ecosystem
- Write clean, efficient, and maintainable Ruby code with long-term sustainability in mind
- Optimize application performance and scalability across the stack
Team Leadership and Collaboration
- Balance hands-on Rails development with team leadership and project coordination
- Support developers through code reviews, pair programming, and best practices in Rails development
- Serve as a mentor and technical leader for junior engineers
- Evaluate and adopt modern tools and technologies within the Ruby/Rails ecosystem
- Create clear and well-structured technical documentation
Data Security and Compliance
- Uphold strict privacy, security, and compliance standards for sensitive healthcare data
- Ensure data is accessed, processed, stored, and transmitted securely
- Promptly report any suspected or actual security or privacy concerns
- Adhere to all company policies and regulatory requirements
What We Are Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field
- Strong experience building applications using Ruby and Ruby on Rails
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and full-stack web applications (Rails + JavaScript frameworks such as React preferred)
- Hands-on experience designing and working with relational databases and complex data models
- Familiarity with AWS and cloud-based infrastructure
- Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
- Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with accountability for results
Preferred Experience
- Experience scaling and maintaining production Rails applications
- Background in healthcare data, claims processing, or regulated data environments
- Experience mentoring or leading developers
- Curiosity, attention to detail, and a passion for continuous learning

Annual Starting Pay Rate: $120k
