A growing landscape and hardscape company in the Greater Portland area is looking for a hands-on Operations Manager to help lead field operations, support crews, improve systems, and keep projects running smoothly from start to finish.

The ideal candidate may come from landscaping, hardscaping, excavation, construction, property maintenance, snow operations, site work, or another field-based service business where they have managed crews, schedules, equipment, materials, and customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Coordinate daily field operations, crew schedules, job-site priorities, equipment needs, and material readiness so teams can start work prepared and stay productive.
- Project Oversight: Oversee landscape and hardscape projects from planning through completion, checking job-site progress, quality, safety, timelines, and client satisfaction along the way.
- Team Management: Support, train, and hold crew members and foremen accountable while building a team culture based on safety, reliability, communication, and pride in the work.
- Financial Performance: Track labor hours, material usage, project progress, and job profitability while working with ownership on estimates, bids, and ways to improve margins.
- Client Relations: Act as the primary point of contact for clients during the construction phase, providing updates and resolving issues promptly.
- Safety & Compliance: Enforce strict safety protocols on-site and ensure all vehicles and equipment are maintained in top working order.
- Strategic Growth: Assist ownership in identifying opportunities for service expansion and process improvement.
Requirements
- Industry Experience: Experience leading crews, projects, or field operations in landscaping, hardscaping, construction, excavation, property maintenance, snow removal, or a related trade/service business.
- Technical Knowledge: Working knowledge of hardscape or landscape construction, such as patios, pavers, retaining walls, drainage, grading, planting, maintenance, or outdoor living projects.
- Management Skills: Ability to lead diverse teams, manage complex schedules, and handle high-pressure situations in the field.
- Business Acumen: Familiarity with project costing, labor management, and basic P&L responsibilities.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with both crews and high-end clients.
- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Strong Plus
- Local Market Knowledge: 5+ years of experience in the Maine/Casco Bay landscaping market.
- Certifications: ICPI (Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute) or NCMA (National Concrete Masonry Association) certifications.
- Education: Degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Equipment Proficiency: Experience operating heavy machinery (skid steers, excavators) and training others on their use.
- Sales Experience: Ability to assist in the design-build sales process and upselling services.
Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
