Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support key accounting operations for a part-time Contract position based in Portland, Maine. This role will focus on maintaining accurate financial records, guiding month-end activities, and ensuring the integrity of general ledger balances. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on accounting experience, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in a detail-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

Lead month-end close activities by preparing schedules, reviewing balances, and helping ensure timely completion of financial reporting tasks.
Prepare and post journal entries with supporting documentation to maintain accurate and complete accounting records.
Manage general ledger activity by reviewing transactions, researching discrepancies, and keeping accounts properly aligned.
Perform account reconciliations on a recurring basis to verify balances and resolve variances efficiently.
Complete bank reconciliations by comparing statements to internal records and investigating outstanding items.
Support the accuracy of financial data within QuickBooks through regular review, maintenance, and correction of account activity.
Assist with ad hoc accounting analysis and reporting needs to support day-to-day finance operations.
At least 3 years of accounting experience, including responsibility for core close and reconciliation processes.
Demonstrated ability to manage month-end close tasks with a high level of accuracy and organization.
Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.
Experience performing account reconciliations and bank reconciliations in a fast-paced business environment.
Proficiency with QuickBooks and confidence navigating accounting systems and financial records.
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and the capacity to work independently in a part-time role.
