Salary and Benefits
This position is represented by the Police Management Association (PMA) and is covered by the negotiated terms and conditions of that Association's Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Details may be found in the PMA MOU, a copy of which is located at www.beverlyhills.org/mou.
Selection Process
- Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the job bulletin at the time of submission unless specified otherwise.
- When an application is being reviewed, only information included in the Education, Work Experience, Certificates and Licenses, and Skills sections of the application will be considered to determine whether an applicant meets the minimum qualifications.
- Required supplemental attachments (i.e. diplomas, degrees, certifications or transcripts, etc.) must be included as part of the original application and may not be emailed separately unless explicitly stated otherwise or approved to be submitted separately.

The selection process will include the following:
- Review of Minimum Qualifications
- All educational documents, trainings, courses, and/or certificates required as part of the minimum qualifications must be attached to your application. The following is a list of the document(s) required at time of application. Please attach a copy of the following document(s) to your application for consideration:
- POST Management Certification
- Bachelors Degree
- Failure to complete the "Work History/Experience" and "Education" sections of your employment application will result in your application not being considered.
- Note: Falsifying one's education, training, or work experience or attempted deception on the application may result in disqualification or disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
- Oral Interview
- Tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2026
- The interview will be weighted 100% for eligibility list placement. Candidates who pass the interview will be placed on an eligibility list.
- Chief's Interview
- The Chief's interview date is to be determined and will likely occur in early September 2026.
All applicants who meet the qualifications for the position and provide complete application materials, including a copy of your current POST Management Certificate and Bachelor's Degree, will be invited to participate in the selection process.
Eligibility List
The candidates who successfully pass the selection process will earn placement on an Eligibility List. The Eligibility List may be used for current and future vacancies in the job classification, as defined by the duration of the list at the time the list is established.
Proof of Education
If educational units, a degree, transcripts, or certificate is required, upload a copy of any license(s), official/unofficial transcript(s), degrees, and/or related employment documents to your Government Jobs account at the time of application and before the closing date unless specified otherwise by Human Resources. Official or unofficial transcripts will be accepted. If your education was completed outside of the United States, you will need to provide a copy of your Foreign Education Equivalency evaluation from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) or Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. Performs high level administrative police work associated with assigned Bureau.
Plans, coordinates and directs Bureau operations and support services.
Supervises, monitors and evaluates staff assigned to Bureau.
Develops and implements objectives and policies for assigned Bureau.
Directs investigations of major crimes.
Directs law enforcement responses to natural disasters, incidents of civil disobedience and other incidents that have an impact on the tranquility of the community.
Reviews work of subordinates.
Assists in investigations of personnel complaints.
Trains, observes, instructs, and evaluates performance of police subordinates.
Prepares and administers Bureau budget to include gathering statistical information and analysis.
Identifies conditions, elements and situations of liability concerns and makes recommendations to correct or reduce liability exposure.
Performs personnel function to include evaluating performance, disciplining, counseling, interviewing, etc.
Reviews daily activity Bureau reports.
Plans and organizes special events and maintains favorable public relations.
Acts as director of Public Welfare, providing guidance for the City's Solicitation Commission. Approves or denies solicitation permit requests within the City.
Performs other related work as assigned.
