Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your job position is to provide each of your assigned transport residents with
transportation to and from appointments and other destinations while providing necessary nursing care
and services in accordance with the patient’s assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your
supervisors.
Delegation of Authority
As a Transport Aide, you are delegated the authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for
carrying out your assigned duties. As Transport Aide, your direct supervisor is the facility Administrator.

Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Functions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Maintain a log and daily schedule of all transports that is always current and accessible to anyone in
the facility who is responsible for scheduling transports.
- Verify transports (appt. times, locations, etc.) at least 1 hour prior and document such verification.
- Monitor the maintenance schedule of the transport vehicle, scheduling and documenting required
maintenance and repairs.
- Monitor the maintenance schedule of the transport vehicle installed equipment, scheduling and
documenting required maintenance, cleaning and repairs.
- Complete van driver orientation and lift manufacturer training video prior to operation of vehicle
and/or mechanical lift installed.
- Use vehicle for work purposes only.
Admission, Transfer, and Discharge Functions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Pick up new residents as directed.
- Transport discharged residents as directed.
- Transport transferring residents as directed.
Personnel Functions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- When not actively involved in transport duties, assist other Certified Nursing Assistants as needed.
Personal Nursing Care Functions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Follow proper lifting and positioning guidelines while assisting residents into and out of transport
vehicles as outlined in Lifting/Transfer policy presented in orientation.
- Be attentive to personal care needs of residents during transport (i.e., comfort, air temperature,
sen-sitivity to light, sound, etc.).
- Secure residents in seat belts, secure wheelchairs, verify lift properly stored, doors fully shut prior
to driving.
Special Nursing Care Functions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Act as a companion to transported residents; wait with, rather than dropping off residents at
scheduled appointments.
Food Service Functions
(Those of a Certified Nursing Assistant) **no eating/drinking in vehicle at any time.
Staff Development Functions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Review any and all videos and/or training materials provided regarding vehicle and/or installed
equipment (lift, automatic doors, etc.) operation, safety and maintenance PRIOR to first transport,
and periodically as directed, documenting such in servicing.
Safety and Sanitation Functions In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Check the operation of installed vehicle equipment, correcting any malfunctions immediately prior to
use of the vehicle, continuing with scheduled transports only if the vehicle and equipment are
determined to be safely functioning.
- Ensuring that oil changes, tire pressure checks and rotations, fluid checks, wiper blade changes and
other required maintenance is performed at the necessary intervals for safe operation of the
vehicle.
Equipment and Supply Functions In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Ensure that the installed vehicle equipment is cleaned and maintenance performed at the necessary
intervals for safe operation of the equipment.
- Clear the transport vehicle immediately following each transport of any trash, debris, spills, etc.
using appropriate cleaning materials and air fresheners as necessary to prevent staining, odors and
ruining of interior upholstery, carpeting, equipment or matting.
- Clean the vehicle inside and out at intervals sufficient to maintain a sanitary and fresh-smelling
vehicle to the extent possible at all times; no smoking at any time in vehicle.
- Follow all traffic and motor safety laws and regulations, including the wearing of safety belts at all
times and obeying speed limits.
- Adhere to vehicle phone use guidelines, and vehicle accident/injury protocols as found in the
employee orientation materials.
- Never leave a resident unattended for any length of time in vehicle.

Resident Rights Functions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Ensure the resident dignity is maintained during transport. (i.e., that the resident is not
indecently exposed or otherwise transported in a manner that could be embarrassing,
unacceptable or distressful for the resident.)
Working Conditions
In addition to those of a Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Drives facility vehicle in variety of weather and road conditions while responsible for safety and wellbeing
of resident passengers.
- Drives facility vehicle both short and long distances to transport residents.
Education
- Must possess, the minimum education requirements necessary for obtaining Certification as a
Certified Nursing Assistant.
Experience
- Must be an Arkansas licensed Certified Nursing Assistant.
Specific Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must hold a valid, unencumbered driver’s license.
- Must have a clean driving record.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Must possess the ability to deal patiently, tactfully, with a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm with
personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general
public on whatever maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
- Must be willing to incorporate new methods and principles into existing nursing practices.
- Must be able to relate information concerning a patient’s condition.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Physical and Sensory Requirements
(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
- Must be able to operate without vehicle modifications, the facility vehicle and installed equipment
used for resident transport.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.
- Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position due to relating to and
working with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately
to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Must function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively
with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
- Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift at least 50 pounds to waist height and be able to push,
pull, move, and/or carry such weight a reasonably minimum distance of 10 feet.
- May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
