Full Job Description

Summary

Gastro Virginia is a growing, GI-focused Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) organization with an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Pre-Op/OR/PACU Registered Nurse to join our fast-paced endoscopy center. We are searching for a Registered Nurse who works cooperatively with existing staff, nurses, and physicians and performs a variety of duties, including admission and recovery of patients undergoing endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures, assisting during GI procedures, and participating in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities. This is a ground-floor opportunity to help open and stand up a new center—strong candidates will help build our clinical workflows from day one.

Must be willing to travel between Gastro Virginia locations: Fairfax and Alexandria.

Primary Responsibilities

Admission, assessment, and recovery of patients undergoing endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures.
Assisting physicians during GI procedures across Pre-Op, Intra-Op, and PACU.
Learning and rotating through all aspects of the position, including Pre-Op, PACU, and Intra-Op.
Conducting pre-procedure phone calls and patient education.
Assist with inventory management and ensure adequate clinical supplies are available.
During downtime, performing chart checks/audits for completeness and compliance, and verifying supply expiration dates and par levels to keep the center inspection-ready.
Participating in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement activities.

Additional Responsibilities

Collaborate effectively with physicians, anesthesia providers, and the interdisciplinary team to deliver efficient, patient-centered care.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant electronic medical documentation.
Assist with procedure room preparation, turnover, equipment readiness, and supply management to support efficient workflow.
Provide patient and family education regarding procedures, recovery, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
Ensure adherence to infection prevention, patient safety, and quality assurance standards.

Required Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current, active Virginia RN license.
Current BLS and ACLS certification.
At least two years of registered nurse experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing knowledge and skills.
Strong IV skills.
Reliable transportation to work.

Preferred Qualifications

Critical care experience (e.g., ICU, Emergency Department, or other advanced, fast-paced clinical settings).
Endoscopy Pre-Op/PACU experience.
Prior experience opening or launching a new surgery center or endoscopy suite.
Experience with electronic health records (EHR).

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Standing and walking for the majority of an 8–10 hour shift.
Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and fine motor manipulation.
Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds and to push/pull equipment carts and towers.
Ability to lift, move, and position patients safely.
Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, body fluids, chemical disinfectants, formalin, and latex; PPE provided and required.
Work in a controlled procedural environment with sustained noise from AER units and suction.

Schedule

Fast-paced endoscopy center, open Monday through Friday. No weekends or on-call.
First procedure begins at 7:30 AM; staff start time is 6:45 AM.
Potential 8–10 hour days.
