SARASOTA ORCHESTRA IS RECRUITING NOW FOR A FACILITIES ASSISTANT!

Since 1949, Sarasota Orchestra has inspired and entertained music-lovers across the region and visitors from around the world. A cultural leader in a city known for its vibrant arts community, Sarasota Orchestra’s threefold mission is dedicated to exquisite performance and first-class musical education.

As the oldest continuing orchestra in the state of Florida, each year the 76-member Orchestra performs more than 100 classical, pops, chamber music, and community outreach concerts.

The mission of Sarasota Orchestra is to engage, educate, and enrich our community through high-quality, live musical experiences.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY:

Job Title: Facilities Assistant

Department: Facilities (with Assistance to Production Dept.)

Reports To: Dir. of Facilities & Special Projects / Facilities Supervisor

Classification: Full-time, Hourly/Non-Exempt

Supervises: None – N/A

Location: Sarasota, FL

General Overview:

Assist Facilities Management with building operations as directed. Serve as on-site “handy man” for building repairs and projects, and to provide recommendations for repairs needed. Assist Production team in the setup and teardown of all Sarasota Orchestra and Youth Orchestra events, Sarasota Music Festival, Summer Music Camp, Friedman Symphony Center rentals, and any other building functions/rentals as needed. The Facility Assistant shall also support a respectful and positive working relationship with all employees, orchestra musicians, artists, conductors, volunteers, patrons, vendors and customers, supporting an inclusive, respectful culture and Sarasota Orchestra values.

Responsibilities:

Facility Support

· Assist Facilities Management in all aspects of building operations and maintenance.

· Conduct periodic building walkthroughs in coordination with the Director of Facilities, to review and maintain awareness of building structures, systems and devices.

· Be a Facilities Management presence for concerts, rentals, and auxiliary events as assigned; including audio set-up and accessing appropriate vendors when required.

· Work alongside Production team / Assistant Production Manager to support building functions.

· Communicate any building issues to the Facilities Management team and vendors as necessary.

· Serve as on-site “handy man” for general building repairs and projects. (See “Qualifications”, below.)

· Conduct “Pre-event cleaning” before concerts and events. Assist with janitorial needs that arise during the workday.

Production Support

· Under direction of Production management, assist in executing set-ups for Sarasota Orchestra and Youth Orchestra services.

· Load/Unload orchestra equipment truck for transport to other venues, at the Sarasota Orchestra building.

· Operate lighting and audio equipment and controls, for events where

equipment is rented.

· Maintain positive relationships with all staff, musicians and vendors.

· Perform other relevant duties and additional projects as assigned. Duties and responsibilities described herein are not a comprehensive list, and additional job tasks may be assigned from time to time as necessitated by the Facilities or Production departments and business needs.

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· Skilled at a wide range of repairs and trades, including painting, drywall, light carpentry, basic electrical (such as replacing switches or outlets), basic plumbing, assembling furniture, hanging pictures and bulletin boards, and other common maintenance tasks (“odd jobs”).

· Strong communication skills

· Ability to work well in a team environment

· Attention to detail and accuracy

· Ability to work professionally, under supervision and independently

· Ability to work extended hours during season

· Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends

· Ability to lift up to 65 lbs

· Experience with orchestra production/operations a plus

· Clear Criminal Background and Motor Vehicle Record required

· Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Software a plus

· Computer experience, including Microsoft Office programs required

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, use hands to finger, handle or feel, and reach above the head with hands and arms. The employee is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity. This position requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 65 pounds.

Working Conditions:

The job operates in a professional environment including office, performance hall and outdoor settings. The environment is generally moderate in temperature and noise level.
