Full Job Description

Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented Kitchen Manager to support the mission of our nonprofit Day Care Center by overseeing daily kitchen operations. This role is essential in ensuring children receive safe, nutritious, and developmentally appropriate meals in a warm, caring environment. The Kitchen Manager will uphold the highest standards of food safety, health regulations, and nutritional guidelines while supporting the overall mission of serving children and families.

Duties

Plan, prepare, and cook daily breakfast, lunch, and snacks in accordance with state licensing regulations and nutritional guidelines.
Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen environment, including daily dishwashing and adherence to established kitchen procedures.
Plan menus that meet dietary requirements, allergy considerations, and program standards, and maintain accurate menu production and meal records as required.
Coordinate food service budgeting with the Administrator, ensuring responsible use of nonprofit resources.
Plan food purchasing; maintain adequate inventory; order and receive food and supplies in a cost-effective and timely manner.
Ensure food and supply storage areas are clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety standards.
Uphold all health, sanitation, and safety regulations related to food preparation and service, including local and state requirements.
Supervise and support kitchen aides and volunteers, providing guidance on safe food handling and cleanliness standards.
Collaborate with day care staff, when appropriate, to align meal preparation with the day care curriculum and children’s routines.
Prepare accurate meal counts and food service documentation for submission to the State and applicable nutrition programs (e.g., CACFP).
Perform other duties related to food service and meal preparation as assigned.
Carry out additional responsibilities in the best interest of the nonprofit program, as assigned by the Day Care Director and/or Center Coordinator.

LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

May independently take action but must inform the Center Coordinator regarding:

a. Ordering of food and routine supplies

Must receive prior approval from the Center Coordinator for:

a. Purchasing or replacing kitchen equipment

JOB REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or GED required
Previous experience or equivalent training using Microsoft Word and Excel
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to work collaboratively in a mission-driven, nonprofit environment
Strong communication and customer service skills
