Raw Materials / Textile Technology Specialist

Hybrid – Manhattan, NY
3 Days Onsite | Contract Opportunity

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Raw Materials / Textile Technology Specialist to support fabric and color development initiatives for a fast-paced retail apparel business. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in systems, library management, and cross-functional coordination while maintaining a strong understanding of fabric and color development processes.

The position will support the tracking, organization, and execution of raw material development from initial submits through production readiness. While a foundational understanding of fabrics and textiles is important, the primary focus of this role will center around systems management, sample organization, color tracking, and development follow-up.

Key Responsibilities

Manage and maintain raw material libraries, fabric archives, trim submissions, and development systems
Organize and track fabric, trim, wash, and garment dye submits across multiple product categories
Support the flow, presentation, and cataloging of development submissions for internal teams
Track color development timelines, approvals, and readiness dates to ensure on-time execution
Partner with cross-functional teams including Raw Materials, Product Development, Design, Merchandising, and Vendors
Assist with technical development, pre-production coordination, and production readiness activities
Monitor and maintain development data accuracy within PLM and related tracking systems
Support wash and garment dye development processes, including follow-up on strike-offs, lab dips, and approvals
Visit retail stores periodically to evaluate fabric and color consistency under store lighting conditions
Help maintain organized workflow processes and operational efficiencies within the Textile Technology function
Ensure quality standards are met for fabrics, garments, trims, and color execution throughout development

Qualifications

3–5 years of experience in raw materials, textile technology, fabric development, color development, or related apparel production functions
Strong organizational and systems management skills with exceptional attention to detail
Experience tracking color development, wash development, garment dye processes, or ready dates
Understanding of fabric construction, textiles, trims, and garment components
Experience managing fabric libraries, sample organization, or development systems preferred
Proficiency with PLM systems, Excel, and product development tracking tools
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced retail environment
Strong communication and follow-up skills with cross-functional teams and vendors
Denim, garment wash, or dye development experience is a strong plus
Bachelor’s degree in Textile Technology, Fashion, Product Development, or related field preferred

Preferred Background

Experience supporting Sport, Swim, Intimates, or Apparel categories
Familiarity with fabric sourcing and trim development processes
Retail or fashion industry experience strongly preferred
