Full Job Description

Payroll Director

Pay: $150,000–$160,000 per year

We are currently seeking an experienced Payroll Director for an immediate opening with a well-established New York City real estate organization. This is a full-time, fully onsite leadership opportunity overseeing a high-volume payroll operation for approximately 4,000 employees across more than 400 unionized property management accounts.

The Payroll Director will lead a team of six payroll coordinators and oversee weekly payroll processing using ADP Workforce Now and ADP eTime. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with union payroll, Local 32BJ, prevailing wage, payroll tax compliance, and high-volume payroll operations.

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of six payroll coordinators.
Manage end-to-end weekly payroll processing for approximately 4,000 employees across 400+ client accounts.
Oversee payroll processing utilizing ADP Workforce Now and ADP eTime.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and union payroll regulations, including FLSA and New York State labor laws.
Manage payroll tax filings, benefit deductions, garnishments, child support orders, and 401(k) contributions.
Oversee Local 32BJ union reporting, benefit eligibility, fund remittances, and employee time-off tracking.
Reconcile payroll accounts, prepare payroll reports, and resolve payroll discrepancies.
Maintain payroll controls and support internal and external audits.
Partner with internal teams and client contacts to resolve payroll-related issues.
Continuously improve payroll processes and ensure compliance with changing regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of payroll management experience.
Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now is required.
Experience with ADP eTime is strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll regulations and payroll tax requirements.
Experience processing Local 32BJ union payroll and prevailing wage payroll.
Strong understanding of wage deductions, garnishments, and payroll compliance.
Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Microsoft 365.
Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
CPP certification is a plus.

Position Details

Salary: $150,000–$160,000 annually
Location: Midtown Manhattan
Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday
Work Arrangement: Fully onsite
