Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on General Manager to lead all aspects of restaurant operations. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who can build and develop teams, drive financial performance, maintain operational excellence, and create memorable guest experiences.

This role is responsible for overseeing both front-of-house and back-of-house operations while supporting the restaurant's workforce development mission by coaching and mentoring emerging hospitality professionals.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperations & Guest Experience

Lead all daily restaurant operations, ensuring exceptional service, food quality, cleanliness, and hospitality standards
Create and maintain an outstanding guest experience that drives repeat business and positive reviews
Address guest concerns professionally and implement service improvements when needed
Ensure compliance with all NYC Department of Health, food safety, and workplace regulations

Team Leadership & Development

Recruit, hire, onboard, train, schedule, and develop restaurant staff
Foster a positive, inclusive, and accountable workplace culture
Coach and mentor workforce development participants and entry-level employees
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and professional development

Financial & Administrative Management

Manage restaurant profitability, including labor costs, food costs, inventory, and controllable expenses
Monitor sales performance and implement strategies to achieve revenue goals
Oversee purchasing, inventory controls, and vendor relationships
Prepare and maintain accurate operational, labor, and financial reports

Community & Mission Engagement

Collaborate with ownership on special events, community partnerships, and promotional initiatives
Support Diàspora's workforce development goals and community impact initiatives

QualificationsRequired

10+ years of restaurant management experience, preferably as a General Manager or Assistant General Manager
Proven experience managing restaurant P&L, labor budgets, food costs, and inventory
Spanish and English
Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced restaurant environment
Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed

Preferred

Experience opening a new restaurant or launching a new concept
Knowledge of Dominican cuisine, Caribbean cuisine, and Dominican culture
Experience training or mentoring entry-level staff
ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
Experience working in nonprofit, workforce development, or mission-driven organizations
