Full Job Description

Industrial Building Systems Operator (BSO)
Location: Pearl River, NY
Salary Range: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour (compensation dependent on education, experience, skills, and alignment with market standards)

Amentum is looking for a skilled and motivated Industrial Building Systems Operator (BSO) to join our team at a client site in Pearl River, NY. We’re seeking candidates with strong preventive maintenance expertise who are dedicated to teamwork and committed to delivering exceptional customer service.

Schedule:
You will work 12-hour shifts (6:00 AM–6:00 PM) on a rotating schedule that includes three consecutive days of work followed by two days off. Weekends are included as part of the rotation.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will perform critical tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building and mechanical systems. Key responsibilities include:

Monitoring the Building Management System (BMS/BAS) to identify alarms, abnormal trends, and ensure optimal system performance.
Conducting preventive maintenance tasks, such as inspections, cleaning, lubricating, and filter replacements.
Responding to system alarms, identifying root causes, and performing basic troubleshooting and remediation. Escalating issues if necessary.
Documenting environmental deviations, root causes, and corrective actions in reports.
Maintaining accurate records in daily operations logs, alarm reports, and event reports.
Conducting routine building inspections to identify emergency conditions and maintaining a clean, organized environment, especially in mechanical rooms.
Coordinating with external contractors to issue safety work permits and work in compliance with safety protocols.
Collaborating with on-site security personnel to respond to fire panel alarms.
Responding to work orders, providing excellent service, and proactively recommending ways to enhance maintenance techniques and system performance.
Adhering to safety procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols, job hazard analysis, and consistent use of PPE.
Utilizing tools such as diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and laptops to troubleshoot and maintain systems effectively.
Working as part of a collaborative team to prioritize and complete assigned tasks, demonstrating flexibility to meet customer needs.
Supporting shift coverage as needed and performing any additional duties assigned by management or team leads.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

A high school diploma or equivalent.
0-1 years of experience as a Building System Operator or in HVAC maintenance within an industrial environment, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Ability to pass a Tuberculosis test or secure medical clearance for Tuberculosis. Will also need to maintain annual negative results.
Pass a medical evaluation for respirator usage and complete a fit test for required respirators.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security access badge at the client site.
Possess or obtain a valid state-issued driver’s license if required.
Be eligible to obtain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required).
Successful completion of a background check (including fingerprinting) and a Security Risk Assessment conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice/FBI, as part of access to select agents and toxins in compliance with the Public Health Security and Bioterrorism Response Act of 2002.
Undergo pre-employment and/or ongoing drug screenings, including federal drug testing.
Adhere to the Personnel Quarantine Policy for Avian Influenza by avoiding contact with certain avian species for a minimum of five days before entering designated research areas.
Flexibility to provide shift coverage when required by the team.

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
Frequent climbing of ladders and working on steps or scaffolding.
Physical agility, including bending, kneeling, stretching, and performing repetitive motions.
Walking extensively throughout the facility during the shift.
Working in emergency conditions at a rapid pace, handling stressors associated with such situations.
Ability to identify and differentiate colors for wire color-coding.

Additional Requirements:

Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and steel toe footwear as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will bring the following valuable skills and experience:

Strong troubleshooting expertise in Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) (e.g., Honeywell, Siemens, Edstrom, etc.).
Hands-on experience repairing and maintaining mechanical systems, including HVAC equipment and related utilities.
Knowledge of Fire Protection Systems and their operations.
Familiarity with pharmaceutical-grade water systems or similar utilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practices) requirements within pharmaceutical environments.
Prior experience with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and pneumatic systems, including diagnosing and repairing issues efficiently.
