Full Job Description

We, at Smart Haven Lifestyle, are seeking a motivated, technically-skilled technician who can both service (maintain, troubleshoot, repair) AV systems and assist with installations of AV and smart-home lifestyle systems. This role supports SHL’s clients (residential and/or commercial) by ensuring system uptime, smooth installation of new systems, and excellent customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform on-site service calls: diagnose, repair, replace, upgrade AV / smart-home equipment, wiring and components.
Assist the installation team: unpacking, mounting, cabling, configuring audio/video gear, control systems, speakers, displays, network connections, and racks.
Follow installation drawings, rack/equipment lists, wiring diagrams, and best-practice industry standards.
Test and commission systems: verify signal integrity, audio levels, video display quality, control system logic, user interface functionality.
Provide customer interaction: assist with client orientation, demonstrate system functions, document any work performed, and educate end-users.
Maintain service logs, inventory of parts and materials, and report status of equipment, repeat issues, and opportunities for improvement.
Work with the broader SHL team (project managers, designers, sales) to escalate issues or ensure installations meet scope and quality.
Assist in configuring networked AV/control systems, and ensuring cable management, labeling, neat installations, adherence to company standards.
Occasionally support after-hours or weekend installations/service as needed.
Uphold safety regulations, company policies, and maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at client sites.

Qualifications & Skills

Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience in AV service/installation (or related field) is preferred; more if the role is senior.
Technical proficiency with AV equipment: displays/TVs/projectors, audio systems, speakers, routing/switching gear, control systems (Crestron, Control4, etc) a plus.
Ability to read wiring schematics, installation drawings, layout diagrams, and follow detailed instructions.
Solid problem-solving and troubleshooting skills: able to diagnose faults, signal issues, wiring problems, component failures.
Comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, cable terminations (coax, HDMI, Cat5/6, fiber if required), racks, and hardware.
Good customer-service and communication skills — able to interact with clients professionally and clearly.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel locally to client sites.
Ability to lift and move equipment (e.g., TVs, racks, speakers) and access installation locations.
Detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, reliable.
Preferred but not required: AV certifications (e.g., Savant, Control4, Lutron a must), experience with smart-home automation, network fundamentals (PCNA).
