We’re looking for a passionate music teacher with experience in both group classes and private lessons to join our vibrant community of educators. The position will start in late August and includes teaching after-school and weekend programs during the September 2026–June 2027 school year, as well as the possibility of also teaching camps on some school holidays and during the summer.

Ideal candidates have experience teaching children ages 4-8 in group classes, are qualified to teach voice and/or piano lessons at a beginner/intermediate level, are enthusiastic about teaching students of all ages, and are eager to contribute to a collaborative and supportive teaching environment.

Primary responsibilities include:

Teach weekly group band classes (ages 9-17) and private drums (BEG-ADV, ages 6-adult) & piano (BEG, ages 6-adult) on Monday, Wednesday, Friday afternoons/evenings and Saturdays during the school year
Teach 4-8 weeks of summer camp during July-August
Attend weekly faculty meetings during the school year

Brooklyn Music Factory lessons and classes are for ages 4-adult, with the majority of students ages 6-12. Unlike most traditional music education programs, BMF focuses on building musicians who are skilled on and off their instruments. Students play Big Music Games that have them moving around the room, training their ears and their voices. Students learn music theory and songwriting from a young age, so they can not only play music, but also understand what they’re playing. Students in both private lessons and group classes have regular opportunities to collaborate and play music in bands.

We measure success by how many gigs our students play and how may songs they collaborate on together.
Game-based learning
Game-based learning keeps our lessons fun and effective. Our lessons and classes feel nothing like the traditional lesson.
Unique Lesson Architecture
We follow our own unique lesson architecture that challenges every student to use their ears before their eyes to solve the puzzles of music.

BMF teachers have regular meetings to develop curriculum, share successes and challenges and support each other.

Responsibilities

Learn and implement BMF curriculum and learning systems.
Show up prepared to teach classes.
Communicate consistently with families afterwards.
Attend required meetings and special events (see schedule below).

Requirements

Must love kids and be willing to get silly, be creative, and play
Experience teaching kids (ages 4-8) in a group setting
Must be creative and excited to learn new curriculum and share ideas with a team
Must be available for weekly staff meetings and committed to learning online systems
A minimum of 2 years of teaching experience
A belief in the musical potential of every individual
A commitment to developing relationships with students and families
Strong communication skills
Available to teach weekly lessons and classes consistently through June, as well as four to eight weeks of summer camp July-August (2026)

SCHEDULE
After-School Program (Start Date-June)

Four teaching days/week
Monday, Wednesday, 2:30-8:30pm, Friday 2:30-7pm and Saturday 9:30am-3:30pm
Attend mandatory weekly all-staff and department meetings (on Fridays), as well as one-on-one check-ins with director (to be scheduled at a mutually available time)
Attend mandatory mid- and end-of-year student performances (usually held on the weekends in December, January, May, and June)
Be available during your work hours to communicate with coworkers and families

School Holiday & Summer Camps

Brooklyn Music Factory offers camps on public school holidays during the school year and during the summer. Most teachers teach a combination of both camps and after-school lessons and classes
