Full Job Description

Manager, Patient Advocacy – Program Expansion

This is a builder role. The right candidate has both the program expertise to lead and the grit to stand up infrastructure from scratch. We're looking for someone who is energized by a blank slate, not someone who needs a fully built operation handed to them.

Direct, hands-on program experience matters a great deal here, we want someone who can lead with real expertise, not learn the programs on the job. That said, we recognize not every candidate will have equal depth across every program area listed below; strong, demonstrated experience in Medicaid and Disability (SSI/SSDI) should be weighed heavily, even where experience in the other program areas is lighter.

Qualifications

5+ years of direct, hands-on premium assistance program management experience, spanning most or all: Medicaid, Disability (SSI/SSDI), HIPP, COBRA, ESI coordination, MSP, and ACA/Marketplace enrollment.

*Candidates with particularly strong, deep experience in Medicaid and Disability are encouraged to apply even if their background in the other program areas is lighter.

Disability (SSI/SSDI) experience should include:

– Experience managing the SSI/SSDI application process, including filing the initial application and gathering, organizing, and submitting the supporting medical documentation. We are non-attorney representatives providing medical records (where available) and assisting with the application process up to the ALJ phase.

– Working knowledge of the medical evidence SSA requires to support a claim, including the SSA Listing of Impairments and medical-vocational allowance criteria

– Experience coordinating medical record requests from providers and obtaining signed SSA-827 medical release authorizations

– Understanding of onset-date and protective filing date strategy at the time of filing, since these decisions affect the claim throughout its lifecycle

– Experience coordinating a smooth handoff to outside legal representation, ensuring they have the medical documentation needed to support the case through reconsideration and the ALJ hearing stage

– Familiarity with the state Disability Determination Services (DDS) review process and the type of medical evidence reviewers look for

Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% onsite presence at client priority locations is a non-negotiable part of this role, particularly during launch periods.
Deep state-by-state HIPP cost-effectiveness process knowledge; COBRA administration and premium subsidy coordination experience; ESI verification and employer outreach experience; MSP coordination and recovery workflow experience.
ACA Marketplace experience, FFM and/or SBM; CAC certification preferred.
Team leadership experience (15+ direct reports); comfortable coaching and managing both onsite and remote Advocates.
Entrepreneurial mindset, this program is being built from the ground up, and the Manager must be a hands-on contributor, not just a director.
Prior experience in a hospital, revenue cycle, or third-party patient advocacy services environment preferred.
