Child Care Director – Sheboygan YMCA

The Sheboygan County YMCA is looking for a Child Care Director to lead and oversee child care programming at the Sheboygan YMCA. This is an opportunity for an experienced early childhood professional who is passionate about creating high-quality programs, supporting families, developing staff, and providing a safe, welcoming environment where children can learn and grow.
As Child Care Director, you will oversee daily child care operations, staff supervision, licensing compliance, program quality, family communication, and administrative responsibilities. You will work closely with the Branch Director and child care team to ensure programs meet the needs of children and families while maintaining compliance with Wisconsin child care licensing requirements.
What You'll Do
- Lead, plan, develop, and oversee high-quality child care programs.
- Recruit, hire, schedule, supervise, train, and evaluate child care staff.
- Create a positive, supportive, and professional team environment.
- Ensure classrooms are safe, organized, welcoming, and developmentally appropriate.
- Review lesson plans and program activities to ensure they align with developmental needs and program goals.
- Maintain accurate child, staff, attendance, health, licensing, and financial records.
- Ensure compliance with all Wisconsin child care licensing regulations and maintain readiness for licensing inspections.
- Manage child care billing, payments, and past-due accounts.
- Purchase classroom supplies, food, and program materials.
- Develop program calendars, special events, and family engagement opportunities.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents and guardians.
- Lead staff meetings, new staff orientation, ongoing training, and continuing education.
- Assist the Branch Director with budgeting, expense management, and program evaluation.
- Report maintenance and facility needs.
- Step into the classroom as needed to maintain required staff-to-child ratios.
- Support the YMCA's mission of strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
What We're Looking For
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education or bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Child Care Teacher or Center Director in a licensed group child care setting or other approved program.
- Wisconsin Registry Certificate at Level 12 or above.
- At least 21 years of age.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable using computers and current technology.
- Ability to learn and adapt to new teaching methods, policies, procedures, and technology.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with a team.
- A positive attitude, flexibility, patience, and professionalism.
- A genuine interest in working with children and supporting families.
Physical Requirements
This is an active position working directly with children. The Child Care Director must be able to:
- Sit, kneel, bend, and work on the floor with children.
- Run, jump, and participate in indoor and outdoor activities.
- Lift and carry children from infancy through age 12 and classroom equipment.
- Participate in playground activities, field trips, and swimming activities.
- Assist with emergency evacuations when necessary.
Required Training & Certifications
Within 30 days of hire, the successful candidate must complete:
- CPR
- First Aid
- AED
- Bloodborne Pathogens
- Child Abuse Prevention
- Working with Program Volunteers
Additional requirements include:
- Completion of 25 hours of continuing education annually.
- Wisconsin Registry certification through the Wisconsin Early Childhood Professional Recognition System within three months of hire, if applicable.
