Payroll & Accounting Specialist

North Mankato, MN

Palmer Bus Service is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll & Accounting Specialist to join our growing team in North Mankato, MN. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a payroll or accounting professional to work alongside our current Payroll Specialist, learn our processes, and grow into a key payroll role within the organization.

This position supports payroll operations for 1,500+ employees across 30+ locations while also assisting with accounts payable, journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting functions.

Responsibilities:

Assist with accurate and timely payroll processing for 1,500+ employees
Work closely with the Payroll Specialist to learn payroll processes, procedures, reporting, and compliance requirements
Utilize Paylocity payroll software to maintain employee information, process payroll, and generate reports
Assist with payroll reporting, audits, reconciliations, and payroll-related questions
Assist with payroll tax documentation and reporting
Prepare journal entries and assist with month-end and year-end close processes
Perform general ledger reconciliations
Assist with accounts payable functions, including invoice review, coding, and processing
Review invoices and statements for accuracy and proper documentation
Communicate with vendors and internal departments regarding invoices and payments
Assist with employee reimbursement processing
Prepare reports and spreadsheets for supervisors and managers
Maintain accurate records and confidential employee information
Assist with process improvements and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

2+ years of payroll, accounting, bookkeeping, or related financial experience preferred
Experience with payroll processing strongly preferred
Experience with Paylocity or similar payroll software preferred
Knowledge of accounts payable, journal entries, and account reconciliations preferred
Strong attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
Strong communication skills and ability to work with employees at all levels
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
