The Assistant Director of Nursing assists with staffing, employee education, admissions, quality assurance and performance improvement (QAPI), infection prevention, clinical audits, survey readiness, and regulatory compliance. Working closely with the interdisciplinary team, the ADON helps ensure residents receive safe, high-quality care while supporting staff through coaching, education, and problem-solving. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the ADON assumes delegated leadership responsibilities to ensure continuity of nursing operations and maintain the highest standards of clinical excellence.

Responsibilities

Assist the Director of Nursing with the daily operations of the nursing department.

Provide leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff.

Assist with nursing staff scheduling, staffing needs, and coverage.

Participate in hiring, orientation, education, and ongoing development of nursing staff.

Monitor resident care to ensure quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Complete clinical audits and follow up on identified concerns.

Assist with QAPI initiatives, performance improvement, and survey readiness.

Support resident admissions, transfers, discharges, and changes in condition.

Participate in care planning and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed.

Assist with infection prevention and control practices.

Provide coaching and education to nursing staff regarding policies, procedures, and standards of care.

Address resident, family, and staff concerns and assist with timely resolution.

Ensure nursing documentation and clinical practices meet facility, state, and federal requirements.

Assist with investigations, incident follow-up, and corrective action as appropriate.

Serve as a clinical resource and promote effective communication throughout the nursing department.

Assume delegated nursing leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
Requirements
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota in good standing.
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a skilled nursing facility, long-term care, or post-acute care setting.
Previous leadership, charge nurse, or supervisory experience preferred.
Current CPR/BLS certification.
Strong knowledge of federal and state regulations governing long-term care, including CMS guidelines.
Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and meet all pre-employment requirements.
