Vitality Shines is seeking two (2) compassionate, dependable, and reliable Direct Support Staff (DSS) or Direct Support Professionals (DSP I or DSP II) for regularly scheduled Short-Hour positions (collectively, “SH DSPs”).
These positions provide direct care, supervision, and support to adults residing in our Adult Residential Facility during designated weekend and weekday shifts. Each position is scheduled for approximately 12 hours per week, with rotating weekend coverage to ensure continuity of care and staff balance.
SHORT-HOUR SCHEDULING
Position Structure
Vitality Shines maintains two (2) SH DSP positions. Each position is scheduled for two 6-hour shifts per week for approximately 12 hours weekly. Depending on the interest in Schedule Set I or Schedule Set II, will determine the fixed schedule for the two positions.
· Schedule Set I
§ Tuesday – 6-hour shift
§ Saturday – 6-hour shift
§ Every other week, the Saturday shift rotates to Sunday
or
§ Thursday – 6-hour shift
§ Sunday – 6-hour shift
§ Every other week, the Sunday shift rotates to Saturday
· Schedule Set II
§ Saturday – 6-hour shift
§ Sunday – 6-hour shift
or
§ Tuesday – 6-hour shift
§ Thursday – 6-hour shift
· Weekend Rotation Example
o Week 1:
§ Schedule A: Tuesday (9pm to 2am) & Saturday (11pm to 4am)
§ Schedule B: Thursday (9pm to 2am) & Sunday (11pm to 4am)
o Week 2:
§ Schedule A: Tuesday (9pm to 2am) & Sunday (11pm to 4am)
Schedule B: Thursday (9pm to 2am) & Saturday (11pm to 4am)
This rotation continues on an alternating basis throughout the year.
ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS
· SH DSPs are expected to work their assigned schedule unless approved leave is granted.
· Shift trades must receive supervisory approval.
· Additional shifts may be offered based on staffing needs but are not guaranteed.
· SH DSPs must provide advance notice of any scheduling conflicts whenever possible.
Pay & Training:
- DSS Pay: $17 - $19/hour (based on experience or certifications)
- DSP I Pay: $19.00 - $21.00/hour (based on experience or certifications)
- DSP II Pay: $21.00 - $23.00/hour (based on experience or certifications)
- Shift Differentials: Additional pay for Vitality Shines’ recognized holidays, emergency staffing incentives, last-minute shift pickup incentives, and coverage needs
- Paid Training/Reimbursements: VSR provides paid training, including New Employee Orientation, Resident Rights, Emergency Procedures, Abuse and Neglect Prevention, Documentation Training, Behavioral Health Support, Person-Centered Practices, or CPR and First Aid (as applicable)
- Pay Growth: Earn increases in pay for healthcare certifications

Although these positions follow a regular schedule, SH DSPs may be offered additional hours based on:

· Emergency coverage situations
Acceptance of additional shifts is voluntary unless otherwise required by Vitality Shines’ policies.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required
- Certifications & Training:
- CPR and First Aid Certification required or must be obtained within Company-established timeframes
- Must complete required state training and certifications—we provide paid training and support to help you succeed
- Experience:
- DSP or Caregiving experience preferred but not required
- Entry-level applicants are encouraged to apply

- Successful background clearance

- Negative TB screening
- Health screening as required
- Drug screening (if applicable)
- Valid driver's license if transporting residents
- Eligible to work in the United States (valid work authorization required)
We offer pay increases for current and active certifications or work experience, including:
- DSP certification or similar healthcare credentials
- 1 to 6 years of work experience as a DSP or other healthcare professional

- Assist residents with transport to appointments and accompany them when needed, depending on severity

1. Communication & Teamwork: Frequent interaction with residents and staff; must clearly follow directions and communicate important updates during shifts.
2. Resident Responsibility: Provides supervision and support to residents independently; contributes to maintaining a safe and structured environment.
3. Work Setting: Indoor, home-like residential environment with occasional community outings.
4. Safety & Compliance: Follows all safety procedures, reporting requirements, and care guidelines in accordance with Title 22 standards.
5. Physical Requirements: Standing, walking, and assisting residents with daily care tasks may be required.
6. Work Pace: Schedule-driven with a mix of routine tasks and occasional urgent situations requiring prompt response.
7. Professional Conduct: Must maintain appropriate attire, reliability, and a respectful approach to residents and team members at all times.
The SH DSP may be assigned duties including:
· Supervise and support residents during daily activities
· Assist with personal care needs
· Assist with meal preparation and housekeeping tasks
· Support resident independence and life skills development
· Monitor resident safety and well-being
· Observe and report changes in resident behavior or condition
· Assist with community activities and outings
· Assist with transportation to appointments when assigned
· Complete required documentation and progress notes
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment
· Follow all Company policies and Title 22 regulations
· Participate in emergency response procedures as required
- Follow established care plans and schedules
- Assist residents with daily routines, including hygiene, personal care, and meals
- Administer residents' medications safely and accurately according to procedures
- Complete required documentation, including daily notes, activity logs, and incident reports
- Assist with implementing behavioral support strategies to meet resident needs
- Communicate effectively with team members and report concerns or updates
