The Cy-Fair Fire Department is seeking a skilled and dependable Suppression Special Operations Equipment Specialist to perform technical-level maintenance, inspection, testing, and repair of suppression-related equipment that supports emergency response operations. This position plays a vital role in ensuring suppression equipment remains safe, service-ready, compliant, and operational for Department personnel.
The Suppression Special Operations Equipment Specialist performs specialized work involving SCBA, fire hose, ground ladders, nozzles, hazardous materials monitoring equipment, rescue tools, PPE components, and related suppression equipment. This position supports operational readiness, annual testing programs, service desk requests, equipment distribution, warehouse operations, asset lifecycle tracking, and compliance with applicable NFPA, OSHA, TCFP, manufacturer, and Department standards. The Suppression Special Operations Equipment Specialist is classified as a full-time hourly non-exempt position.

Pay Rate: Suppression Special Operations Equipment Specialist: $ 28.98per hour + $0.20 per year for longevity
Hourly Education Pay:
Associate’s Degree: $0.58
Bachelor’s Degree: $0.87
Master’s/Doctorate Degree: $1.15
Schedule: 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday, with potential to remain on duty beyond scheduled hours including evenings and weekends, field support, and emergency call-outs as required.

Essential Job Functions
Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with Department Standard Operating Guidelines, including Bulletins, Memos, Safety Guidelines, Personnel Handbook, and Chief’s Orders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine inspection, cleaning, testing, and basic-to-intermediate repairs of SCBA units in accordance with NFPA 1852 and manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct annual hose and ladder testing in accordance with applicable NFPA standards and inspect nozzles for function, flow, pattern, and safe operation.
- Perform maintenance, inspections, battery rotations, and minor repairs on hydraulic, electric, and pneumatic rescue tools.
- Conduct calibration, bump testing, cleaning, and minor repair for hazardous materials monitoring equipment, including Sensit, MultiRae, and similar gas detection devices.
- Ensure reserve suppression units and apparatus equipment complements are fully stocked, compliant, and operational.
- Record inspections, maintenance, testing, repairs, serial numbers, asset movements, and service history in the Department’s inventory management system.
- Respond to and complete service desk tickets related to suppression equipment failures, replacements, repairs, and readiness concerns.
- Receive, assemble, label, store, and distribute suppression equipment, PPE components, tools, and related supplies according to operational needs.
- Organize and maintain specialized equipment storage areas, ensuring proper labeling, par-level management, first-in, first-out inventory rotation, and safety compliance.
- Support the Lead TCFP Equipment Procurement & Control Specialist with equipment rollouts, new product evaluations, major projects, annual testing programs, and capital equipment initiatives.
- Assist with commissioning suppression equipment for new apparatus and decommissioning equipment when units are retired, reassigned, or removed from service.
- Provide equipment demonstrations and basic training support to personnel on proper use, care, and readiness of suppression tools and equipment.
- Operate Department vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, warehouse equipment, hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and inventory scanning devices safely.
- Follow OSHA, NFPA, manufacturer, TCFP, and Department safety procedures for handling suppression equipment, compressed air cylinders, contaminated items, and hazardous materials residue.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Lead TCFP Equipment Procurement & Control Specialist or Quartermaster.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in fire service logistics, mechanical repair, warehouse operations, or a related technical field.
- Minimum one (1) year of hands-on experience with fire department suppression equipment, including PPE, SCBA, hose, ladders, rescue tools, or related equipment.
- Experience using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, inventory management software, and basic documentation or recordkeeping processes.
- Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
Certifications:
- Valid Class C Texas driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Current American Heart Association CPR certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
- SCBA Technician I certification.
- Scott Tech 2 certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
- Sensit and/or MultiRae gas monitor training.
- NIMS ICS-100, ICS-200, ICS-700, and ICS-800, or the ability to complete within 90 days of hire.
Desired Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of SCBA function, components, respiratory protection requirements, and applicable NFPA and manufacturer standards.
- Knowledge of fire hose, ground ladders, nozzles, rescue tools, gas detection devices, and related suppression equipment maintenance practices.
- Understanding of asset lifecycle tracking, par-level management, FIFO inventory practices, service desk workflows, and equipment documentation requirements.
- Skill in using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, calibration devices, barcoding equipment, and basic mechanical repair practices.
- Ability to troubleshoot operational issues with SCBA, rescue tools, hazardous materials monitors, and other suppression equipment.
- Ability to interpret manufacturer manuals, NFPA standards, technical schematics, pressure indicators, gauges, calibration screens, and equipment markings.
- Ability to perform hose and ladder testing safely and accurately while maintaining organized inspection and maintenance records.
- Strong organizational, documentation, customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently on technical tasks with minimal supervision while supporting Operations personnel and field readiness needs.
- Commitment to workplace safety, operational readiness, equipment accountability, and compliance with applicable standards and Department policies.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Duties are performed in office, warehouse, station, training facility, apparatus bay, and outdoor field environments.
- Work may involve exposure to varying temperatures, high heat, humidity, heavy rain, dust, fumes, compressed gases, noise, contaminated PPE, hazardous materials residue, and warehouse-related hazards.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, reaching, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, fine motor coordination, and manual dexterity are required.
- Requires frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, including SCBA cylinders, hose bundles, PPE components, rescue tools, and ladders, with occasional heavier lifting with assistance.
- Requires the ability to safely operate warehouse equipment, transport vans, 24-foot box trucks, forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, inventory scanners, and basic repair tools.
- Requires visual acuity to read equipment labels, certification tags, technical schematics, gauges, pressure indicators, calibration screens, and small equipment markings.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in noisy environments, field settings, warehouse areas, and formal presentation settings.
- May be required to travel to all Department stations and facilities and respond after normal business hours, including evenings, weekends, and emergency situations.
- Ability to maintain the physical and mental fitness necessary to safely perform assigned duties.

- Hazardous Materials Monitoring Equipment: Electronic detection devices such as Sensit, MultiRae, and other gas monitors used to identify toxic, flammable, or oxygen-deficient atmospheres.
