Derryberry's Mechanical is a family-owned and operated mechanical contracting and service company specializing in commercial HVAC, plumbing, and site utilities in the Greater South East Texas area. Derryberry's has been one of Houston's most trusted mechanical contractors since 1983. The team at Derryberry's is known for their remarkable ability to install, service, and maintain a wide range of commercial building systems, ensuring quality services at a competitive rate.

Job Description: We are seeking a skilled and dependable Pipelayer to join our Site Utilities team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing underground water, sewer, and storm drainage piping systems according to project plans and specifications. The ideal candidate has experience working in underground utility construction, is safety-focused, and takes pride in producing quality work.

Responsibilities:

Assist in the layout, assembly, and installation of underground piping systems according to blueprints and specifications.
Provide support to pipe layers by handing them tools, materials, equipment, and cut pipe as needed
Dig trenches and excavations using hand tools and assisted by machinery
Operate power tools and equipment such as jackhammers and compactors under supervision, grade trenches using stabilized sand
Assist in the placement and alignment of pipes, valves, and fittings.
Backfill trenches and compact soil to ensure proper compaction and stability.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Adhere to safety protocols and regulations at all times.

Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in construction or a related field is preferred but not required.
Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting heavy objects, digging trenches, and working in confined spaces..
Strong work ethic and reliability.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Install underground water, sanitary sewer, storm drain, and other utility piping in accordance with project plans and specifications.
Read and interpret blueprints, grade stakes, and layout information to ensure proper pipe placement and alignment.
Prepare trenches by leveling and grading bedding material to the required elevations.
Align, connect, and secure pipe, fittings, valves, and manholes while maintaining proper grade and slope.
Work closely with excavator operators and other crew members to safely install underground utilities.
Verify pipe elevations using lasers, levels, and other surveying equipment.
Perform trench preparation, backfilling, and compaction to ensure system integrity and compliance with project requirements.
Inspect installed pipe for proper alignment, grade, and quality before backfilling.
Operate hand tools, power tools, and compaction equipment safely and efficiently.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and trench safety requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent.
