About the Opportunity

Meridian Engineering is seeking a business-minded accounting professional to become a key member of our leadership team. This position begins by leading and strengthening our accounting and financial operations. As that foundation is established, the role expands into broader business leadership through executive reporting, operational analysis, leadership of key business support functions, and strategic decision support.

Successful Team Members in This Role Will

· Deliver timely, accurate financial information leadership can trust.

· Strengthen accounting processes and financial discipline.

· Provide meaningful business insight—not just reports.

· Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership.

· Lead and develop the Accounting support team.

· Continuously improve financial operations.

A Day in the Life

Financial Leadership & Stewardship (35%)

· Lead general accounting operations including general ledger, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end close.

· Prepare financial statements, management reports, cash flow reporting, and budget-to-actual variance analysis.

· Oversee project accounting including WIP, revenue recognition, retainage, job costing, contract setup, and project financial integrity.

· Maintain accounting schedules supporting fixed assets, debt, leases, prepaid expenses, and balance sheet accounts.

· Ensure transactions comply with company policy, internal controls, and GAAP.

· Partner with the fractional CFO to ensure timely and accurate reporting.

Business Reporting & Decision Support (20%)

· Prepare executive financial reporting and Monthly Business Review packages.

· Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.

· Support budgeting, forecasting, and planning.

· Provide recommendations supporting executive decision-making.

· Develop meaningful management reporting.

Business Operations Leadership (20%)

· Lead the AP Specialist and Contracts/Bids Administrator.

· Coordinate priorities across business support functions.

· Partner with Operations, HR, Estimating, and Executive Leadership.

· Promote accountability and continuous improvement.

Financial Operations & Process Excellence (15%)

· Improve accounting workflows, close processes, and internal controls.

· Develop accounting policies, procedures, and standard practices.

· Reduce rework while improving consistency and efficiency.

· Implement scalable financial best practices.

Executive Business Partnership (10%)

· Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the fractional CFO.

· Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and MBRs.

· Support banking, audits, tax preparation, and external reporting.

· Identify risks and recommend practical business solutions.

Measurements of Success

· Financial information is timely, accurate, and trusted.

· Month-end close is efficient and consistent.

· MBRs provide meaningful insight.

· Accounting operations are scalable and standardized.

· Business support functions operate effectively.

· Executive leadership views this role as a trusted advisor.

Qualifications Required

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

· 5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience.

· Strong knowledge of construction accounting, WIP, job costing, and financial reporting preferred.

· Experience leading month-end close and financial statement preparation.

· Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.

Preferred

· Viewpoint Vista experience.

· Heavy civil construction or project-based industry experience.

· CPA or CPA-track preferred.

· Experience leading accounting staff.

· Desire to grow into broader business leadership.
