Full Job Description

Overview:

The Organist shall play the organ and piano for worship services and choir

rehearsals, as well as for special services such as weddings and funerals when

appropriate.

The Organist shall be selected by the Rector, in consultation with the Music

Search Committee, and shall serve at the pleasure of the Rector.

Depending on the skills, qualifications, and musical hopes of the applicants

received, Trinity is open to the possibility of also having the Organist direct the

choir and take on a greater role in Music at Trinity.

Organist Responsibilities:

Worship. Shall provide organ and/or piano music for regular Sunday

worship service (10:30am), including both the choir season (Labor Day to

Memorial Day) and the summer season, and for choir rehearsals.

Special Events, Weddings, and Funerals. Shall provide organ and/or

piano music as appropriate, with additional compensation.

Qualifications:

The Organist shall be proficient in playing the organ and piano. Ideally, the

Organist is familiar with The Hymnal 1982 and liturgical church services in

general. Depending on the qualifications of the chosen candidate, the Choir

Director and Organist positions may be combined into one Music Director.

Music at Trinity:

Currently, the Choir Director directs the all volunteer choir with one rehearsal

during the week, and an additional rehearsal before the 10:30am service. The

Choir Director has been choosing only the anthem for the offertory, in addition

to rehearsing the hymns and service music chosen by the Rector.

Organ:

Our organ is a Rodgers Artist Series 3-manual instrument, purchased and

installed in July 2020.

Compensation and Benefits:

Payment is based on a year-round schedule for the Organist of $400 a Sunday

if the rehearsal time is only Sunday (1 service, rehearsal before and potentially

after). Additional compensation offered for a midweek rehearsal. If the

organist is also the Choir Director, total compensation would be in the range of

$26,000-$31,000 based on negotiated duties. Compensation for weddings and

funerals will be in addition to this amount.
