At 41South we design, fabricate, and install architectural graphics and signage across the east coast for a wide range of commercial clients. We are in need of a Laser & Engraver Operator to process and manage materials for our project teams.
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Laser & ADA Sign Production Specialist to join our growing production team. This individual will be responsible for manufacturing high-quality ADA-compliant signage and engraved products while managing the day-to-day operations of our laser department.
The ideal candidate will have experience with laser engraving equipment, ADA signage production, or a strong willingness to learn. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, organization, and pride in producing accurate, high-quality work.
As the primary operator of our laser department, this position plays a critical role in ensuring our customers receive products that meet the highest standards of craftsmanship, compliance, and quality.
Primary Responsibilities
- Produce ADA-compliant interior signage, plaques, dimensional lettering, and engraved products.
- Operate and maintain:
- Thunder 100W Laser using LightBurn Software
- Gravotech LS1000XP 150W Laser using Gravograph Software
- Gravotech IS8000 24" × 48" Large Format Engraver
- Cut, engrave, and finish a wide variety of materials including acrylic, Rowmark, metals, laminates, and other sign substrates.
- Install raster braille, tactile copy, flat-cut letters, and other ADA components to produce finished signage.
- Verify all products meet ADA requirements for tactile characters, braille placement, spacing, contrast, and overall compliance.
- Read and interpret production drawings, shop drawings, and work orders.
- Perform routine maintenance on equipment and coordinate repairs or service when necessary.
- Manage inventory levels of engraving materials, braille beads, adhesives, substrates, and department consumables.
- Order department materials as needed to maintain uninterrupted production.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient laser production department.
- Work closely with the Fabrication, Paint, Print, Assembly, and Project Management departments to ensure projects are produced accurately and delivered on schedule.
- Inspect completed work to ensure exceptional quality before release for installation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience producing ADA-compliant signage.
- Working knowledge of ADA signage regulations and manufacturing standards.
- Experience operating laser engraving equipment and CNC engravers.
- Experience with one or more of the following:
- LightBurn Software
- Gravograph Software
- Thunder Laser Systems
- Gravotech Laser and Engraving Equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot equipment.
- Ability to read shop drawings and production files.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet production deadlines.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a production team.
- Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
