Job Overview
The Career Support Specialist provides comprehensive participant support and career services throughout the entire training lifecycle, from recruitment and barrier reduction to job placement and retention. This dual-role position integrates intensive case management with employment services, ensuring participants successfully complete training, secure industry-relevant employment, and advance along career pathways. In addition to delivering individualized coaching and job placement support, the Specialist designs and facilitates curriculum that builds job-ready skills, collaborates with employers and community partners, and aligns program activities with labor market demand and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Participant Support, Coaching, and Success Management

Recruit, screen, and enroll participants into workforce development programs.
Identify and mitigate barriers to participation (e.g., transportation, childcare, digital access, housing, mental health referrals).
Provide ongoing coaching, motivational interviewing, and accountability check-ins throughout onboarding, training and job search.
Coordinate supportive services and community referrals; track service utilization and outcomes.
Monitor attendance, progression, and completion; implement interventions to promote persistence and success.

Employment Services & Career Readiness

Provide individualized career counseling, resume and interview preparation, and job search strategy tailored to skills, interests, and labor market demand.
Source job leads, match candidates to openings, and coordinate employer interviews and hiring events.
Provide retention services (post-placement coaching, problem-solving, advancement planning).
Track job placement outcomes and maintain compliance with reporting requirements.
Coordinate supportive services and referrals to remove barriers to employment.

Curriculum & Facilitation

Design and curate lesson plans, training materials, and assessments aligned to industry standards.
Facilitate in-person and virtual workshops using adult learning principles.
Incorporate real-world projects, simulations, and competency-based activities into training sessions.
Support orientation and cohort onboarding; set expectations and explain training-to-employment pathway.
Assist with scheduling, logistics, and participant communications (email, text, LMS announcements).
Monitor learner progress, provide feedback, and adjust instruction to meet diverse needs.
Ensure curriculum meets accessibility and quality standards; update content based on employer feedback and performance data.

Employer & Partner Engagement

Build and maintain employer relationships; gather job requirements and feedback to inform training content.
Build and maintain relationships with employers to identify job openings and align training with labor market demand.
Collaborate with training providers and instructors to align curriculum with employer expectations and competencies.
Coordinate wraparound services with community organizations, social service agencies, and public programs.

Data, Reporting & Compliance

Maintain accurate case notes, participant records, service plans, and employment outcomes.
Prepare reports for internal stakeholders and funders; ensure compliance with grant requirements (e.g., WIOA, state initiatives).
Track and analyze KPIs (enrollment, completion, placement, retention, wage gains) and recommend data-informed improvements.
Uphold confidentiality and data security standards in accordance with applicable regulations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Workforce Development, Education, Human Resources, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
2–5 years of experience in employment services, career counseling, or workforce development/training.
Strong facilitation and instructional design skills; experience with adult learners preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365/Google Workspace.
Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to analyze data and prepare reports for program evaluation.
Demonstrate ability to work with diverse adult learners; trauma-informed and equity-centered practices.
Knowledge of local labor market trends, employer expectations, and workforce program compliance.
