Full Job Description

Marshall Public Schools serves over 2,500 PK-13 students across eight (8) school buildings throughout the Marshall and Albion communities. NATURE OF POSITION
The primary responsibility of the Library Technician manages the efficient operations of the school library. This includes the scheduling of classes and spaces, the usage of materials and the ordering of resources and supplies. The library technician cooperates in the provision of services to students and staff and assists with supervising students before, during or after school for bus transitions, hallways, lunchroom or playground, as needed.

WORK YEAR
190 Days; M-F 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (7.5 hr/day; 37.5 hr/wk)

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education – One or more of the following:
- Associates Degree OR
- 60+ credit hours from a degree granting college/university; OR
Ability to obtain substitute teacher permit from the Michigan Department of Education
Strong interpersonal relation skills including the ability to work in a highly confidential manner
Work positively and constructively with professional staff and interact positively with students, parents/guardians and the community
Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written) and technology skills
Willingness to learn about new technology and adapt to its use
Basic familiarity of the Dewey Decimal System
Knowledge of filing rules and alphabetization
Knowledge and familiarity with office machines and computers
Desire to share a love of books and reading
Maintain regular and punctual attendance
Ability to maintain a welcoming and safe environment for students

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following is not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties

Collaborate with teachers and their classroom schedules to establish the library class/book selection schedule
Maintain basic knowledge of children’s literature and age-appropriate reading materials
Ability to make decisions within the framework of established policies and regulations
Assist staff and students in finding appropriate reading materials
Greet students and staff in a pleasant, welcoming manner and maintain a pleasant working relationship with all
Prepare and distribute overdue notices to teachers, students, and contact parents/guardians as needed
Shelve and organize materials and conduct shelf-reading
Responsible for the general maintenance of library materials which includes cleaning and repair
Research, organize, and place book and supply orders using purchase requisitions
Maintain organization and flow of the circulation desk
Research, select, order, inspect, process and catalog new books and materials/supplies
Duplicate needed materials using technology within the District
Offer library materials that support teaching staff, as requested
Oversee and serve as building administrator of the Renaissance Learning programs as part of the K-5 ELA curriculum including adding/subtracting students and staff, helping teachers and guiding them when needed, printing reports when requested and bringing concerns to the Director of Curriculum & Instruction
Serve as technology support to students including
1. Assist students with signing into a technology device including, but not limited to:
Provide the student with their account username/email address
Perform a reset of the account password, when necessary
(Re)Activate the student account, when necessary
2. Assist students with Tier-one device inquiries including, but not limited to:
Device is charging as expected
Device powers on as expected
Assist with connectivity to the wireless (may require plugging it into a cable), when necessary
Assign a temporary/loaner device to the student while the MPS Technology Department works on the original device
3. Contact MPS Service Desk for assistance when unable to resolve the inquiry with aforementioned tasks
Teach/instruct students and staff how to utilize the library catalog search functions and assist in the use of computers and other technology available in the library
Perform and manage the annual inventory of materials and equipment
Provide targeted math and/or reading intervention support to students individually or in small groups under the direction of the classroom teacher, interventionist or building administrator
Maintain flexibility to shift between library, intervention and substitute duties based on daily building needs
Assist with supervising students before, during or after school as assigned
Serve as a backup to witness the dispensing of, and occasionally administer, medications in the school office as needed
Serve to support main office during lunch periods, when needed
Demonstrate an understanding of the district's mission, vision and strategic priorities and actively works to advance them through daily practice and professional conduct
Contributes to the culture and climate of the district by modeling its core values, fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment and serving as a committed representative of the district's identity and purpose in all interactions with students, families, staff and the broader community
Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Administrator
