Full Job Description

Overview:

Patient Care Technician
Marshalltown Hospital
Department: Inpatient Care
Shift: Part-Time | Days | 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM | 24 hours per week
Schedule: 12-hour shifts, holiday rotation, and every 3rd weekend

Join the compassionate care team at Marshalltown Hospital as a Patient Care Technician (PCT). In this hands-on role, you'll work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to support patients throughout their hospital stay, helping create a safe, comfortable, and positive care experience.

Responsibilities:

Assist patients with daily care needs while promoting comfort, dignity, and safety
Partner with nurses and other healthcare team members to support patient care plans
Obtain and document patient information, observations, and vital signs accurately
Communicate important patient updates to the healthcare team in a timely manner
Support patient safety initiatives and help maintain a safe care environment
Monitor patients and report changes in condition or concerns promptly
Provide compassionate, respectful service to patients and their families
Contribute to smooth department operations through teamwork and collaboration
Assist with patient observation and safety monitoring as needed

Qualifications:

This position does not get reported with Direct Care Workers (DCW).

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends and speaks fluent English.
Multicultural sensitivity.
Microsoft Office – basic computer skills.
Customer/patient focused.
Critical thinking skills using independent judgment in making decisions.
Capable of continuous monitoring of up to 15 patients on one screen at one time and remaining alert at all times while on duty.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients using a microphone and headset.
Ability to communicate with hospital staff and respond quickly to patient behavioral changes.
Ability to prioritize simultaneous situations.
