Full Job Description

Summary: Under general direction, provides legal advice and representation to the Gaming Operations; representing the Gaming Operations in all legal proceedings, and in other matters that affect the legal interests of the Band's Gaming Operations.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvides legal advice and services on legal issues involving gaming federal legislation, federal regulations, decisions of judicial bodies and implementation of the Bad River State Compact and Bad River rules and internal controls pertaining to gaming operations;

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, reviewing case histories and rulings, attending workshops, conferences and seminars, and establishing networks pertaining to gaming operations;

Prepares and reviews contracts, agreements, leases and similar documents in order to maintain the best legal interests of the gaming operations, confers with representatives of contracting entities and related organizations; and

Maintains documentation and confidentiality of all privileged information.

Qualification Requirements To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required. The person in this position must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal direction.

Educational and/or Experience

Required: Training and Licenses

Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.

Active license or eligibility to sit for the Bar Exam to practice in any state and eligibility to sit for the Bad River Tribal Court Bar exam to practice in Bad River.

Experience

Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, Bad River Tribal-State Gaming Compact and Bad River laws, rules and internal controls pertaining to gaming operations or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.

Preferred

Knowledge of the culture and traditions of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, or other Tribes with similar cultures and traditions.
