Job Description: Operations Support and Trainer
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, development, and delivery of comprehensive training programs for custodial and operational staff. This position provides hands-on instruction and support to ensure employees have the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively perform their assigned duties.
The position supports operational leadership by assisting with training curriculum, instructional materials, compliance documentation, safety inspections, inventory management, and operational activities.

Role Overview: This position is responsible for assisting with planning, coordination, and delivery of comprehensive training programs for operational staff. The Operations Support and Trainer role helps ensure operations personnel receive high-quality instruction that meets regulatory requirements, promotes safety, and supports operational excellence.
Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Diploma or GED
-
Experience:
-
Five (5) years of satisfactory experience in commercial cleaning, custodial services, building maintenance, or a closely related field.
-
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience leading, mentoring, coaching, and training employees.
-
Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and inventory management systems.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
-
Knowledge of custodial, building maintenance, and operational procedures, including the proper use of tools, equipment, cleaning products, and mechanical equipment.
-
Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures applicable to custodial and building operations.
-
Ability to demonstrate and provide hands-on training in the proper use of custodial tools, equipment, and mechanical equipment.

Ability to operate and demonstrate the proper use of a variety of mechanical and operational equipment.
-
Ability to develop, organize, and deliver training to individuals and groups with varying levels of experience and skill.
-
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, administrators, and other stakeholders.

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, as well as database management programs.

Ability to use CMMS and inventory management systems to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot routine operational issues.

Ability to interpret and follow applicable safety procedures, manufacturer instructions, and operational guidelines.

Possess and maintain a valid driver's license with no court-ordered restrictions.

Ability to adjust work hours on an irregular basis based on operational requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate Degree or higher from an accredited institution in facilities management, business administration, education, occupational safety, or a related field..

Professional certifications related to custodial services, facilities management, safety, training, or building operations.

Experience and knowledge of building, fire, and life safety codes.
-
Experience with procurement of materials, supplies, and equipment.
-
Experience developing training programs, lesson plans, instructional materials, or standard operating procedures.
-
Knowledge and experience utilizing adult learning principles and effective instructional practices in small and large group settings.

Experience working in a school, government, institutional, or other large facility environment.
Role Responsibilities:

Training and Staff Development
-
Plan, coordinate, and deliver training for custodial and operational staff in the safe and effective performance of assigned duties.
-
Provide hands-on instruction in interior cleaning procedures using hand tools, powered equipment, and mechanical equipment.
-
Provide instruction on the proper operation, care, cleaning, maintenance, and storage of custodial and operational equipment.
-
Assist supervisory staff in identifying training needs and developing training plans to address identified needs.
-
Conduct orientation and onboarding training for newly hired custodial and operational employees, as assigned.
-
Provide refresher training and remedial instruction when operational or performance needs are identified.
-
Maintain current knowledge of industry standards, equipment, products, procedures, and best practices related to custodial and building operations.
-
Safety and Compliance
-
Conduct monthly safety inspections of assigned locations, equipment, and operational areas.
-
Assist with training employees on safety procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment, chemical safety, equipment operation, and other applicable safety requirements.
-
Maintain knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire, and life safety systems and procedures applicable to school facilities.
-
Assist with training and procedures related to fire drills, emergency lighting systems, emergency generator systems, and other facility safety equipment and procedures.
-
Maintain accurate records related to required training, certifications, inspections, and compliance activities.
-
Operations Support
-
Serve as a resource to custodial and operational staff regarding proper procedures, equipment use, and operational practices.
-
Provide backup support to school-based operational staff, as needed and assigned.
-
Assist operations managers and supervisors with coordinating, scheduling, and setting up meetings, trainings, demonstrations, and other operational activities.
-
Assist supervisor personnel with researching and evaluating products, equipment, tools, and operational practices.
-
Assist with the procurement of material, supplies, and equipment as assigned.
-
Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with monitoring inventory levels.
-
Utilize CMMS and other district systems to enter, update, and retrieve operational information and records.
-
Assist with identifying equipment, supply, and operational needs and communicate recommendations to appropriate supervisory personnel.

Communication and Documentation
-
Maintain accurate and timely records and documentation related to training, employee participation, certifications, inspections, inventory, and compliance requirements.

Prepare reports, training materials, presentations, correspondence, and other documents as assigned.
-
Communicate effectively with custodial staff, operational supervisors, administrators, vendors, and other stakeholders.
-
Maintain confidentiality of information as required by WCPS policies and applicable laws.
-
Professionalism: Demonstrate a courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
