Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our dynamic legal team. This vital role offers an exciting opportunity to support primarily family law. As a Paralegal/Legal Assistant, you will play a crucial part in managing client interaction, legal documents, conducting research, legal filings and assisting attorneys with case preparation. This paid position is ideal for someone passionate about the legal field, eager to develop their skills, and committed to delivering exceptional support in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Assist attorneys with case management by organizing and maintaining legal files using document management systems such as Westlaw.
Conduct comprehensive legal research for Virginia family matter.
Draft and review legal documents, including pleadings, contracts, discovery requests, and correspondence with clients.
Support litigation processes through document review, data entry, filing court documents, and preparing trial materials.
Manage client communications professionally via phone and email while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
Coordinate interviews with clients and witnesses to gather pertinent case information efficiently.
Assist in procedural law compliance by preparing procedural documents and tracking deadlines for multiple cases.

Qualifications

Prior paralegal/legal assistant experience is preferred but not required.
Proven paralegal experience with a strong background in legal support functions.
Proficiency in legal research tools including LexisNexis and Westlaw; familiarity with legal case management software like PCLaw is a plus.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
Strong writing skills for drafting legal documents and correspondence; proofreading expertise is essential.
Experience using document review platforms; familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) is required.
Knowledge of procedural law and experience supporting litigation processes from inception through trial preparation.
Exceptional client communication skills combined with professional phone etiquette and organizational abilities.
Ability to handle confidential information discreetly while demonstrating strong research capabilities in various legal fields including estate planning, environmental law, patent law, securities law, tribal regulations, and more.
