The candidate will create a classroom learning environment in which assigned students make measurable progress towards identified goals as indicated by the successful competition of requirements for the Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literacy and Life Skills and/or a Maryland High School Diploma.
This position duties consist of but not limited to the following:
- Conduct instruction to assigned inmate students, which results in their progress toward successful completion of the requirements for a Maryland State Adult Literacy and Life Skills Certificate.
- Assist the Principal in areas of school accountability and management by providing advice, guidance and training to teachers.
- Plan and organize time to provide for effective instruction.
- Assess and record student progress using a variety of techniques and indicators.
- Work as a member of an instructional team to achieve success for all students.
Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
Experience: None.
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
1. One (1) year of experience teaching in an alternative education setting.
2. One (1) year of experience teaching adult learners.
3. One (1) year of experience teaching institutionalized or disadvantaged populations.
Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials.
