POSITION TITLE:

Coordinator of Counseling

DEPARTMENT :

TRIO UB Upward Bound

JOB DESCRIPTION:

EMPLOYMENT TERMS:

Full-time, 12 months

PRIMARY DUTY:

This position will provide project participants with counseling services. Upward Bound is a federally funded program that is currently funded through August 31, 2027. Continued funding is contingent upon a competitive application process.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assist with identifying and actively recruiting 82 eligible high school students to participate in the Project on an annual basis
Design counseling curriculum for the six-week summer residential program
Hire, train, and supervise Resident Assistants and Counseling Assistants for the summer program
Assist Project Director/Academic Coordinator in designing and implementing a positive residential experience for the students during the six-week program
Assist students with personal, career, and social awareness
Assist with identifying speakers or facilitators and assist with planning activities for six on-campus Saturday Academies during the academic year
Maintain appropriate documentation of services provided to project participants, including close monitoring of project database
Assist with the completion of the Annual Performance Report
Assist students with college admission processes, including scholarship and financial assistance
Contribute to the grant writing process to secure program funding
Be actively involved in university activities/committees which directly impact/reflect the interests of program participants
Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Master’s degree in Student Development, Counseling, Administration, or related field.

Experience: Minimum three years’ experience working with disadvantaged students or students in a high school-aged educational setting. Experience required with assisting students with college admission processes and career awareness.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position will work in an office setting from the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch break and occasional nights and weekends. Some conference and program travel is required. Attendance at six Saturday Academies is also required. This position is identified as Campus Security Authority (CSA). The CSA will attend required CSA training and is an official of the University who has significant responsibility for students and campus activities and the authority to take action for the University.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise eight part-time employees during the summer component.

In conjunction with its emergency and disaster management program, Northwest organizes and hosts Missouri Hope , an annual mass casualty training exercise that attracts first responders and emergency workers from throughout the nation and provides hands-on training in preparation for a natural disaster.
