House Manager Job Description

Job Category: Direct Care and Leadership

Summary

House Manager (HM) staff assist people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in community living, and community services, modeling and teaching skills, participating in recreational activities, providing transportation, supporting employment, and helping achieve personal outcomes. Specialized training may be required for assignments. HMs are crucial to help an individual live a safe, enjoyable life in their community with opportunities to learn and exercise, increasing independence and control over their lives.

Scope

This direct support position is responsible for the provision of day-to-day services to program participants. House Managers are required to provide leadership oversight to Direct Support Professionals (DSP), people supported, family and friends of people supported, and work harmoniously with the administrative team.

Responsibilities (may vary based on assignment)

· Must maintain scheduling flexibility to cover open shifts as needed; to include times outside of a regularly assigned schedule. Shifts may include evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday working hours.

· Supervision of people supported

· Providing training in activities of daily living (ADL’s)

· Documentation of services (must be completed prior to leaving)

· Transportation

· Crisis intervention

· Implementation of specialized plans of care

· Maintaining the home and grounds in a level of excellence

· Treat all individuals with dignity and respect

· Support individuals to increase control over the routines and activities in their life

· Teach, assist, and support individuals in the community and at home so that the individual can learn, practice and master the skills that enable him/her to enhance his/her status by assuming socially valued roles

· Supporting individuals’ existing relationships and increasing their networks of friends and acquaintances

· Ensure that all individuals are supported to explore and express their interest in community membership

· Oversight of health and welfare of person supported. Ensure health and well-being of person supported by attending individual appointments as needed, administering (or supporting them to self-medicate) upon completion of a state approved certification and in accordance with company policy

· Providing a well-balanced diet prepared to meet individual needs (per PCSP), following all instructions provided by medical professionals (SLP, MD, etc.)

· Complete agency training program in a timely manner and participate in other professional development as required

· Implement ISP action steps and staff instructions as written and at the frequency stated in the plan. Review and acknowledge any updates to the ISP

· Demonstrate accurate data collection procedures and consistent use of prescribed support strategies that promote success

· Maintain all required certifications such as medication administration, CPR/First aid, and PCM

· Assist the person supported with household shopping and maintenance as necessary, providing ongoing opportunity for individuals to increase control and responsibility

· Attend and actively participate actively in staff meetings

· Facilitate teamwork between all team members via clear communication, sharing responsibilities with a positive, constructive attitude

· Follow all agency policies, procedures, and directives

· Complete job duties professionally and efficiently

· Work harmoniously with all agency staff, supported people, and outside entities

· Ensure staff are appropriately scheduled

· Reconcile timecards

· Responsible for financial tracking, reconciliation, budgeting, and submission

Qualifications and Abilities

HS diploma or GED required, college preferred. Prior experience working with adults or children in a training or supportive environment preferred.

House Managers must meet all requirements of licensing, regulatory, and credentialing agencies; possess a valid driver’s license; thrive in a team-oriented environment; able to follow verbal and written instructions; always present an objective outlook; present an acceptable and morally upstanding character as well as physical appearance; be alert and observant during shift times; have a safe and responsible driving history; have a proven record of conscientious, responsible behavior (work, school, or volunteer history). Problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
