Accounting Manager/Office Supervisor
The Steamship Authority is currently seeking to fill the position of Accounting Manager/Office Supervisor at the Steamship Authority's Falmouth administrative office location.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Manager/Office Supervisor to lead our core accounting operations. This role is responsible for coordinating the accounts payable cycle, managing accounting staff, and ensuring compliance with internal controls and company policies. The ideal candidate is a strong leader with solid technical accounting expertise and a proactive, hands-on approach.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and supervise daily operations of the accounting team, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory control, cash receipts, and traffic statistics.
* Manage and maintain the company's accounting system, including developing and improving user procedures.
* Analyze expenditures and provide insights to support decision-making.
* Ensure adherence to internal controls, policies, and procedures related to expenditures and asset protection.
* Review and process accounts payable transactions, including cost allocations.
* Support the development of the annual budget.
* Conduct special financial analysis, cost studies, and reports as needed.
* Serve as an authorized check signer and review inter-bank fund transfers.
* Provide guidance to staff on SQMS disciplines and ensure compliance.
* Take on special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
* Minimum of 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
* Knowledge of financial reporting and internal audit processes.
* Supervisory experience with the ability to lead, mentor, and develop staff preferred.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
* Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced spreadsheet skills (e.g. Excel).
* Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
