BOURNE PUBLIC SCHOOLSASSISTANT PRINCIPAL - SECONDARYJOB DESCRIPTIONReports to: PrincipalJob Goal: To assist the Principal in the overall administration of the school in order toprovide the best educational programs and servicesTo advise the Principal concerning the development, implementation, andevaluation of school policies, programs, services, and needsEssential Duties and Performance Responsibilities: 1. Assists the Principal with daily school management, student activities and services,community relations, personnel, and instruction matters2. Assists the Principal in school improvement efforts including on-going advancement ofcurriculum, instruction and assessment3. Participates in community and school-sponsored events in order to continuously improveschool-community relations4.

Monitors and coordinates the student positive behavior intervention and/or disciplineprogram in accordance with both district procedure and/or policy and the due processrights of students5. Monitors daily attendance and participation in school of individual students6. Communicates with parents and families regarding attendance expectations andindividual student absences7. Files and maintains appropriate attendance related forms and documents with school andcourt and acts as the liaison between the school and the district court for services relatedto children within the school building8.

Implements all aspects of the Educator Evaluation System including supervision andevaluation of teaching and additional staff as assigned9. Participates in recruitment, hiring, and mentoring of educators10. Works with the school and district administration concerning the selection,implementation, and assessment of curriculum and resources11. Assists the Principal in the development and implementation of the school budget12.

Assists the Principal in the development and implementation of the School Improvementplan13. Coordinates and implements or supports MCAS, Benchmark Testing and studentinterventions/enrichment if requested to do by the Principal14. Prepares student and staff schedules and coordinates computerized grade reporting andenrollment/attendance reporting systems15. Prepares documents and reports that the Principal may request concerning any aspect ofthe schools operation16.

Attends School Committee meetings when requested to participate in presentationsconcerning the operation of the school17. Attends all building-based meetings18. Participates as a member of the schools Crisis Response Team, MTSS Committee, andother Committees as assigned19. Collaborates with School Resource Officers and other local agenciesSchool Committee Approved September 4, 1985: Revised: 5/3/2320.

Coordinates, facilitates, and communicates with the building Principal all of theappropriate testing accommodations necessary for building-based and district wideassessments21. Oversees and/or supervises after school detention22. Plans and conducts professional development for staff as needed23. Serve as Acting Principal in the absence of the Principal24.

Performs other duties as assigned by school or district administrationPhysical Demands Must be able to prepare and read documents and use a computer and other officeequipment on a daily basis. Auditory and Verbal Communication - A person in this role must be able to communicateeffectively and efficiently by telephone, email, and in person with School Committeemembers, staff, students, parents and the public. Physical Abilities - Performing this position requires extended standing, walking, sitting,filing, and use of a computer and other school office equipment, as well as engagement inphysical restraint training and implementation. Extended Concentration, Excellent Recall Abilities and the Ability to Remain Calm inStressful Situations - These capabilities are an important part of properly fulfilling therequirements of this position.Qualifications Minimum of a Masters Degree Valid licensure in the area of school administration as an assistant principal/principal Experience at the secondary level is preferred;such alternatives to the above as deemedappropriate by the Superintendent Strong technological skill Detailed-oriented and high level of proficiency and accuracy in all duties Strong written and verbal skills Ability to process, and appropriately maintain, sensitive, confidential material aboutemployees and students Ability to exercise discretion, work independently, and carry out complex assignmentswith general instructions Ability to interact appropriately and in a positive manner with the School Committee,public, staff and students Ability to learn and understand District rules and procedures and legal requirements Ability to think ahead and anticipate problems and solutions Ability to self-motivate Ability to work in a team environment and develop cooperative and harmoniousworkplace relationsSalary: To be negotiated/regionally competitiveTerms of Employment: Individual Employment Agreement, full calendar year with competitivesalary and vacation/sick time.Evaluation: Evaluated annually by the PrincipalSchool Committee Approved September 4, 1985: Revised: 5/3/2
