About The Inkwell
The Inkwell is Boston's first and only Thrill Theatre experience, a genre we built from scratch because nothing like it existed.
The Inkwell is an actor-driven suspense experience where small groups of 2-8 people don't just watch a thriller unfold… they're inside it. Teams take part in the story while moving through 15,000 square feet, with professional actors reacting to their every move. If you've ever wanted to feel what it's like to live inside a cinematic thriller, The Inkwell is where that happens.
About the Role
We are currently casting the five performers who will bring our first three Inkwell stories to life. You'll perform scripted characters for small groups moving through the spaces with you. Hold character. Respond in the moment without letting the story fall off its rails. You'll learn multiple roles and rotate between them. You'll also enforce guest rules, maintain boundaries, and stop unsafe behavior when it happens.
Before we open, you'll help build these characters from the ground up through script work, movement workshops, choreography, safety training, and technical rehearsals. This is an active job in a purpose-built environment. Depending on the role, expect crouching, kneeling, crawling, short runs, choreographed movements, hidden passages, and confined spaces. Expect low light, complete darkness, theatrical haze, and sudden sound and lighting effects. Expect costumes, makeup, and sometimes masks. Expect to reset props and spaces between shows and hold performance quality through several shows a shift.
Beyond Performance
This is a founding company, so the job is wider than the stage
- Content. Short-form video, behind-the-scenes, in-character bits.
- Build and repair. Sets take a beating. Comfort with hand tools, patching, painting, prop-making.
- Community. Pop-ups, partner events, local networking.
- Guest experience. Check-in, briefings, etc. The show starts before the show starts.
- Bar. We'll have one. If you've poured before, great. If you haven't but you're willing to get trained and certified, that's just as good.
You don't need all five. Tell us where you're strong.
What we want
Strong character work at close range. Sharp memorization and timing. Reliability. Confidence in setting boundaries. Comfort in dark, suspenseful environments. Someone who fixes the problem in addition to reporting it.
People and backgrounds we love: immersive theater, haunted attractions, dance, circus arts, escape rooms, improv, and creatives who are certain a desk job would suffocate them.
