Childs Engineering is a well-established and growing firm specializing in waterfront structural engineering. We provide expert inspection, assessment, design, and analysis services for piers, wharves, seawalls, bridges, and a wide range of other marine and waterfront structures.

What You’ll Do
You will work on a wide variety of waterfront projects, including design, surveying, underwater inspections, and regulatory services.
Fieldwork will involve both topside and underwater activities, including inspections, destructive and non-destructive testing, topographic and hydrographic surveying, and construction oversight.
Office-based responsibilities will include structural analysis and design, preparation of drawings and specifications, quantity and cost estimating, and the preparation of engineering assessment reports.

What You’ll Need
- B.S. degree or higher in Civil, Structural or Ocean Engineering.
- 2-8 years of waterfront engineering and inspection experience.
- EIT or PE registration.
- Commercial diving certification (ADCI or equivalent).
- Practical experience with civil engineering software (AutoCAD)
- The ability to learn quickly, strong communication skills, and a solid work ethic.
- Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight, as required.
- Valid driver’s license.
Additional Qualities
- MS degree with strong Structural, Geotechnical, or Coastal Engineering degree focus.
- Familiarity with structural analysis software such as STAAD.
- Experience with topographic or hydrographic surveys.
- Completed NHI Bridge Inspector Course.
- Possession of a Boating Safety Certificate.
This role requires a willingness to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting equipment, working outdoors, and accessing challenging structures.
