Position Summary:
The Maintenance Intern will partner with multiple Culinary Center teams to support the expansion and fortification of manufacturing and building maintenance programs. This role will work cross-functionally to support preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives in a food manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities:
1. Review, Advise, Update Preventative Maintenance Schedules

Revise checklists based on performance trends, create additional checklists if necessary

Perform analysis on meantime between failures and meantime to repair values, provide suggestions to improve metric
2. Improve equipment reliability and influence downtime reduction

Analyze breakdown history and identify preventable reoccurring failures

Perform root cause analysis using 5 Whys, Fishbone or other industry standard technique

Suggest design or process improvements to reduce failures
-
Standardize repair procedures for common faults to improve equipment availability and uptime
3. Enhance Documentation and Standardization

Equipment Manuals and SOPS

Maintenance Log

Lubrication and Startup Charts

Digitize old maintenance records

Lead weekly maintenance reporting rollup
4. Computerize Maintenance Management System Support

Assist in CMMS data entry and improvement

Enhanced current computerized maintenance dashboard
5. Equipment Optimization

Identify energy losses (Excessive use of heating or cooling, compressed air leaks)

Suggest energy saving measures
-
Assist in cost analysis
-
Identify ways to reduce use of consumables (lubricants, blades, filters, belts)
6. Drive and monitor Safety Compliance
-
Review, Monitor and Conduct Safety Inspections (Safety Walk, PIT Inspections)

Assist with LOTO training/ maintenance
-
Promote use of PPE and safe work practices
-
Participate in Safety Drills and Audits
7. Machine Operations and Support

Shadow technicians to learn machine operation basics

Support production teams during breakdowns

Attend team meetings and toolbox talks
Working Relationships: Work at the intersection of Culinary Center operations teams, as well as quality assurance and EHS
Minimum Education: Freshman or Sophomore year of undergraduate degree, studying engineering or related trade (major or minor)
Preferred Education: Knowledge of electronics, interpreting of schematics, pneumatic systems and ability to work from equipment manufacturer drawings/sketches and instructions. Understanding of plumbing, carpentry, masonry, electrical theory, HVAC systems, PLC and micro electrical components, as well as local, state regulatory, International Building Code, OSHA, HACCP and GMP requirements

Hours & Conditions: Monday – Friday 4- 10 hour days in refrigerated manufacturing environment
Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and regularly lift and or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Frequent periods of standing are expected.

Consistent with Massachusetts Pay Transparency Law, we’re sharing the base salary range for this position. Final pay within this range will be based on your skills, experience, and qualifications. Base pay represents just one part of our total rewards approach. Pay Range: $20.00 - $22.50 per hour (based on academic year and experience).
