Position SummaryLunenburg Public Schools seeks an exceptional Reading Specialist to join our dedicated K-2 team at Lunenburg Primary School. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a district that has made early literacy a top priority and is deeply committed to ensuring that every child becomes a successful reader.Lunenburg Public Schools utilizes mCLASS DIBELS 8th Edition as its universal literacy screener and progress-monitoring system and HMH Into Reading Version 3 as its core literacy program. As a district, we are committed to implementing only evidence-based literacy practices aligned with peer-reviewed research, the Science of Reading, and Massachusetts literacy guidance.The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing the district's vision for literacy excellence by providing direct intervention services, supporting data-based decision making, and helping to build coherent systems of support for students and staff.Why Lunenburg?Strong district commitment to early literacy and evidence-based instruction.District leadership that values and invests in the Science of Reading.Collaborative and supportive school culture focused on continuous improvement.Opportunity to make a significant impact on student outcomes during the most critical years of reading development.Ongoing professional learning and collaboration centered on literacy best practices.Primary GoalsIncrease the percentage of students meeting or exceeding benchmark expectations in reading.Ensure early identification and intervention for students at risk for reading difficulties.Deliver explicit, systematic, cumulative, and diagnostic literacy instruction.Support the implementation of high-quality foundational literacy practices across all K-2 classrooms.ResponsibilitiesProvide direct literacy intervention services to students in grades K-2.Deliver evidence-based instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, encoding, fluency, vocabulary, oral language, and comprehension.Analyze universal screening, diagnostic, and progress-monitoring data to identify student needs, develop intervention plans, monitor growth, and adjust instruction accordingly.Participate in MTSS and problem-solving meetings and collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and administrators.Assist in coordinating and monitoring high-dosage tutoring services provided through approved third-party vendors.Monitor the effectiveness of interventions and tutoring services and communicate student progress to relevant stakeholders.Support teachers in implementing evidence-based literacy practices aligned with district expectations.Maintain accurate records and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.QualificationsMassachusetts DESE Reading Specialist License required.Massachusetts teaching license and prior teaching experience required.SEI Endorsement required or ability to obtain in accordance with Massachusetts regulations.Minimum of three years of successful teaching and/or literacy intervention experience preferred.Demonstrated expertise in the Science of Reading, structured literacy, and evidence-based intervention practices.Experience administering, interpreting, and utilizing literacy assessment data, including mCLASS DIBELS.Strong knowledge of MTSS, progress monitoring, and data-based decision making.Training and/or experience in LETRS, CORE, Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, or similar structured literacy approaches preferred.Desired Candidate ProfileThe ideal candidate is a passionate literacy leader who believes that all children can learn to read and is committed to using evidence-based practices to ensure student success.
