Full Job Description

Summary: Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley (CCRGV) is the charitable branch of the Diocese of Brownsville. CCRGV serves individuals and families in crisis, with a special focus on those who are poor and most vulnerable across Cameron, Hidalgo, Starr, and Willacy counties.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Communications Director leads all organizational communications, shaping the voice, visibility, and reputation of the nonprofit. This role oversees strategic messaging, media relations, digital presence, and storytelling to advance the mission and engage key audiences. The Communications Director will ensure all communications uphold Catholic Social Teaching and promote the inherent dignity of every person we serve.

The Communications Director will work closely with CCRGV’s senior leadership and with the Diocese of Brownsville Communication’s Team on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

· Strategic Communications — Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with organizational goals.

· Brand Management — Maintain consistent brand identity across all channels and materials.

· Campaigns — Work with Development Director to algin, design and execute communications campaigns that elevate programs and fundraising initiatives.

· Media Relations — Build relationships with journalists, craft press releases, and serve as spokesperson when appropriate.

· Digital Strategy — Oversee website content, email marketing, and social media presence.

· Grow Community Engagement — Build meaningful connections with supporters, partners, and the public.

· Support Leadership — Prepare talking points, speeches, and presentations for executives and board members.

· Amplify Impact — Highlight program outcomes through reports, visuals, and storytelling.

· Content Development — Produce and edit newsletters, reports, speeches, and campaign materials.

· Internal Communications — Support staff and board with clear, timely internal messaging.

· Analytics & Reporting — Track performance of communications efforts and provide regular insights.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or related field preferred or 5+ years of communications experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.

· Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.

· Strong understanding of digital platforms, analytics, and media relations.

· Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

· Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
