LUPE Votes uses electoral and political organizing to win justice for working families in the Rio Grande Valley. LUPE Votes is a 501(c)4 partisan organization.
LUPE Votes seeks a highly motivated, driven individual to assist as a paid canvasser in South Texas. Canvassers will be supervised by the Civic Engagement Organizer and or Canvasser Lead working to execute and meet the benchmarks set by the overall voter contact program. Canvassers will be responsible for contacting thousands of voters through safe door-to-door door canvassing and phone banking. This position is a contract, part-time position from August 2026 until November 4, 2026. This position will pay $17/hr and will require nontraditional hours under the immediate supervision of the Civic Engagement Organizer and or Canvasser Lead. Candidates must be sufficiently mobile to canvass in these neighborhoods.
Compensation: $17 per hour
Duration: August 17, 2026 - November 4, 2026
Time Commitment: Minimum of 15 hours up to 30 hours per week - Part Time, Exempt, Contract

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Familiarity with voter targeting, identification, persuasion and Get Out the Vote efforts, as well as low-propensity turnout.
- Proven commitment to confidentiality. In this role, you’ll have a window into movement and organizing politics--and confidentiality is critical.
- Be goal-oriented, punctual, organized and with a positive attitude
- Meet key benchmarks for phone banking and door-to-door canvassing set by the voter contact program
- Ability to fill out accurate daily reports
- Ability to work well in a team-setting
- Ability to door knock for several hours a day
- Have access to a personal cell phone and transportation for job duration
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Understanding of issues facing low income and marginalized communities in South Texas.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and desire for social change.
- Must be able to work in a team environment, have proven leadership capability, and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
- Possess qualities of integrity, credibility and a passion for LUPE Votes mission.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with VAN to manage field/voter data. (Preferred)
- Experience with peer-to-peer text and phone banking (Preferred)
- Valid Driver's License (Required)

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
- The canvasser will interact most frequently with the Civic Engagement Organizer and or Canvasser Lead.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Canvassers are regularly required to sit, stand, walk and canvass to organize in a specified community for up to 30 hours per week.
- Manual Dexterity sufficient to operate a mobile device and computer.
- Ability to travel locally.
- This person will be required to use their personal vehicle for business, must carry auto insurance and have a current valid driver’s license.
