Position Name: Director of Nursing - Behavioral Health and Psychiatric

Type: Full Time/Permanent - Direct Hire

Location: Bakersfield, CA

Salary range: 120,000 - 135,000 Annually plus benefits

Sign-On: $10,000 sign-on bonus, distributed in three instalments:

$2,500 within the first 90 days of employment
$2,500 after six months of employment

$5,000 upon completion of one year of employment

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Director of Nursing specializing in Behavioral Health and Psychiatric care to lead our nursing team within a long-term care environment. This leadership role involves overseeing clinical operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and delivering exceptional patient-centered care for residents with mental health and behavioral needs. The ideal candidate will possess extensive nursing management experience, a strong understanding of psychiatric nursing practices, and a dedication to fostering a safe, supportive environment for both residents and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic leadership and oversight for nursing services within behavioral health and psychiatric units
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans tailored to residents’ mental health needs
Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to behavioral health, long-term care, and nursing standards
Supervise nursing staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and shift management
Oversee documentation review, medical records accuracy, and clinical data entry within EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate comprehensive resident care, including medication management and therapy services
Maintain a safe environment by monitoring resident behavior, managing risk assessments, and implementing safety protocols
Lead efforts to improve quality assurance initiatives and ensure regulatory audits are successfully completed
Promote a culture of continuous improvement through staff education on HIPAA compliance, medical terminology updates, and best practices in psychiatric nursing
Manage administrative functions such as staffing schedules, resource allocation, and budget adherence

Requirements:

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in California.
Valid CPR and Pro-ACT certifications (both must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required. Your required nursing administration experience is determined by your highest degree:
Associate’s degree: Minimum of four (4) years in nursing administration.
Bachelor’s Degree: Minimum of two (2) years in nursing administration.
Master’s Degree: Minimum of one (1) year in nursing administration.
At least one (1) year of psychiatric nursing supervisory experience within the past six years.
At least one (1) year of experience managing and supervising RNs delivering patient care in a behavioral health setting within the past six years.
Prior experience as a Director of Nursing in an acute psychiatric or skilled nursing setting is preferred.
