Full Job Description

Position Summary:

Irwin Car and Equipment is a company that has been delivering exceptional quality and customized precision to it’s customers for over 100 years. We have a strong foothold in the Industrial, Mining, and Transportation markets with a heavy focus on customized engineering and manufacturing. Irwin also operates several distribution warehouses and fabrication, machine, and rebuild shops along the East coast and Mid-West.

Irwin Car and Equipment is seeking a full-time machinist to operate and program computer numerical control (CNC) machines to manufacture precision parts to meet specifications through setup, programming, and quality checks. This employee will support the Locomotive and Industrial divisions of Irwin Car and typically be machining steel wheels and axles.

Responsibilities:

Machine Operation:

· Operate CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and grinders.

· Set up machines according to blueprints and job orders.

· Load and unload raw materials and finished parts.

· Monitor machine performance and make adjustments as needed.

Programming

· Modify CNC programs to guide machine operations.

· Translate blueprints and specifications into machine-readable code.

· Test programs and make adjustments to ensure accuracy.

Skills/Experience:

Technical Skills

· Strong understanding of CNC programming and machine operation.

· Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.

· Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments.

· Knowledge of various machining processes and techniques.

· Forklift experience is a plus

Soft Skills

· Problem-solving and analytical skills

· Attention to detail and accuracy

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Good communication and interpersonal skills

· Maintain a clean and safe environment
