Tax Manager | CPA Firm

McKinney, TX

As an experienced Tax Manager, you may have already heard some version of this:

“We see you as the future of this firm.”

It sounds encouraging, but the detail is often missing.

An established independent CPA firm in McKinney, TX is looking for a Tax Manager who wants to build towards Partner and is ready to understand what that could look like from the beginning.

This is not a role where you will be limited to reviewing returns and managing deadlines.

You will remain close to clients, work directly with the firm’s leadership team, and gain greater exposure to how the practice operates beyond your own portfolio.

You will have the opportunity to influence client service, develop the team, contribute to important decisions, and become involved in the wider conversations shaping the future of the firm.

You will work directly with the firm’s leadership team and gain visibility into the wider operation of the practice.

The position offers compensation of $125,000 to $150,000.

What you will be doing

You will manage a varied portfolio of individual and business clients while taking responsibility for the quality, progress, and delivery of tax engagements.

Your work will include:

Reviewing tax engagements for individuals, partnerships, S Corporations, C Corporations, and other business entities

Leading client relationships throughout the year rather than only communicating around filing deadlines

Providing practical tax guidance alongside compliance work

Supporting tax planning and advisory projects with the firm’s leadership team

Maintaining strong technical and service standards across your portfolio

Managing workflow, deadlines, client communication, and engagement progress

Coaching junior accountants and helping them develop their technical skills and confidence

Contributing to conversations around client service, team development, and the continued growth of the practice

What the firm is looking for

You will need between five and eight years of public accounting tax experience, along with strong knowledge of both individual and business taxation.

A CPA or EA is required.

You should be comfortable managing client relationships independently and confident making sound decisions without needing unnecessary layers of approval.

The role is likely to suit someone who enjoys developing people as much as delivering high quality client work.

You should also have a genuine interest in building a long term future with the firm and progressing towards Partner.

You do not need to match every point perfectly to begin a conversation.

The firms I work with often place as much value on judgement, attitude, leadership potential, and long term fit as they do on a perfect résumé.
