This Is Not a Traditional Retail Pharmacist Position
Allen Pharmacy & Wellness is an independent, relationship-driven pharmacy specializing in hospice, long-term care, non-sterile compounding, retail pharmacy, and medication delivery services.
We are looking for an experienced Pharmacist-in-Charge who wants more than a traditional dispensing role.
This position is ideal for a pharmacist who enjoys being involved in the entire operation of a pharmacy, building relationships with physicians and nurses, solving problems, leading a team, and making decisions that directly affect patient care.
Our pharmacists work closely with hospice agencies, nurses, physicians, long-term care facilities, patients, caregivers, pharmacy technicians, delivery drivers, and couriers every day.
Because many of the patients we serve are medically fragile or receiving end-of-life care, timeliness, accuracy, compassion, communication, and sound clinical judgment matter tremendously.

Compensation
Contract compensation: $50–$58/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
This is a contract position with direct gross compensation rather than a traditional W-2 payroll structure. There is no employee payroll withholding from the pharmacy; the pharmacist is responsible for their own applicable taxes and contractor obligations.
We value experienced pharmacists and are particularly interested in candidates with backgrounds in hospice, long-term care, independent pharmacy, pharmacy leadership, and non-sterile compounding.

Primary ResponsibilitiesPharmacist-in-Charge & Compliance
- Serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge and maintain pharmacy operations in accordance with applicable Texas and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Maintain appropriate policies, procedures, documentation, records, licenses, and regulatory standards.
- Maintain appropriate controlled-substance records and oversight.
- Ensure prescriptions are reviewed for clinical appropriateness, accuracy, legality, interactions, contraindications, dosing, and patient safety.
- Maintain appropriate inventory controls, storage conditions, expiration monitoring, labeling, and medication security.
- Help create and maintain an organized, efficient, compliant pharmacy operation.
- Lead by example and help maintain high standards throughout the pharmacy team.
Hospice Pharmacy Services
Hospice is an important part of our pharmacy and requires a pharmacist who understands the urgency and compassion involved in end-of-life care.
Responsibilities include:
- Communicating professionally with hospice nurses, physicians, caregivers, and hospice organizations.
- Processing and prioritizing urgent and STAT hospice medication orders.
- Understanding common hospice and comfort-care medications.
- Helping troubleshoot prescription, medication availability, formulary, delivery, and clinical issues.
- Coordinating prescriptions with technicians, delivery drivers, and couriers.
- Following an order through the entire process when necessary—from receipt to dispensing to delivery.
- Proactively identifying problems that could delay patient care.
- Participating in our after-hours hospice on-call rotation every other week/weekend.
Our hospice pharmacy services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, so dependability and responsiveness are essential.
In an uncommon STAT situation where a medication is urgently needed and a driver or courier is unavailable, the pharmacist must be willing to assist with getting the medication to the patient, including personally delivering the medication when necessary.
Long-Term Care
- Work with long-term care facilities, nurses, caregivers, and prescribers to resolve medication issues.
- Manage prescription changes, refills, clarifications, and urgent medication requests.
- Help ensure medications are prepared and delivered accurately and on time.
- Communicate clearly with facility staff and proactively address issues that could interrupt medication therapy.
Non-Sterile Compounding
Previous non-sterile compounding experience is required.
Our pharmacy compounds multiple dosage forms, including:
- Creams
- Gels
- Ointments
- Capsules
- Troches
- Suppositories
- Other customized non-sterile preparations
The pharmacist must be comfortable reviewing formulas, calculations, ingredients, dosing, preparation processes, documentation, labeling, beyond-use dating, quality standards, and final verification of compounded prescriptions.
Pharmacy Operations & Workflow
The PIC will help oversee the flow of prescriptions throughout the pharmacy.
This includes:
- Prescription order entry and review
- Filling and verification
- Prioritizing STAT and time-sensitive prescriptions
- Coordinating technicians
- Coordinating drivers and couriers
- Determining delivery priorities
- Troubleshooting delivery problems
- Following urgent medications through completion
- Managing interruptions while maintaining accuracy
- Helping the team prioritize competing demands
- Maintaining an efficient workflow during high-volume periods

Required Qualifications
- PharmD or BS Pharmacy degree from an accredited school of pharmacy
- Active and unrestricted Texas pharmacist license
- Ability to serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge
- Non-sterile compounding experience
- Strong working knowledge of pharmacy laws, regulations, controlled substances, prescription processing, and pharmacy operations
- Strong computer and pharmacy management system skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization abilities
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
- High degree of integrity, professionalism, reliability, and compassion
- Ability to participate in the hospice after-hours/on-call rotation
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, hospice teams, long-term care facilities, patients, caregivers, technicians, drivers, and couriers

Experience in one or more of the following is highly desirable:
- Hospice pharmacy
- Long-term care pharmacy
- Independent pharmacy
- Pharmacy leadership or PIC experience
- Non-sterile compounding

- Delivery-based pharmacy operations
